Grand Hotel in Southend-on-Sea

I was really looking forward to a delicious meal and was so sadly disappointed. My £15 main was some salad leaves, a spoonful of lentils, a smattering of seeds. Very poor, I won't be back.

Very lovely restaurant with great food, great staff and great ambience! One of the best restaurants in Southend.

Was busy because the light show was on but the service was good, cocktails were great and the food lovely. The portions are huge!! Definitely going back.

Lovely food and great atmosphere, nice to see the place was very busy, but as with most places it could do with offering more vegetarian and vegan food. One of our orders didn't arrive but was quickly rectified with an apology and deducted from the bill.

Food is great, staff is very nice. Very wide selection of cocktails. I was impressed about finding Corona on draught! We also have been to comedy club and it was fab! We are definitely going back

The hotel was clean. I requested our bed sheets be changed on arrival. They weren't dirty as in not been washed they were but there was an imprint of a boot on the sheet. Any way they were changed immediately. Just unfortunate they should never have been fitted. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was good and reasonably priced. We payed what I considered to be a small amount extra for a sea view and it was well worth it with exceptional view of the estuary. Though hotel staff need to go out and clean the balconies to the same standard as the rest the hotel

Spent a lovely summer's evening having cocktails here outside facing the beach. what a lovely view as well as the old historical feeling to the building. Very nice to see such a large menu of cocktails available, we also stopped for a light bite to eat and will definitely be returning. 🍸🍹

I've been coming here for a while now and can not fault the place. It's classy, staff are great and service is good even with these covid restrictions. Actually the one fault I can bring up, (because nothings perfect) is the 10 crisps you get when you order a "bowl" of crisps at £1.50...other than that miniscule issue I would definitely recommend the place for drinks at least...can't comment on cooked food as I haven't eaten here.

This place was the perfect way to experience English culture! We walked around southend and just had to come in! The scones and tea were delicious as well as the different burgers and chicken meals they had! Definitely have no complains about the service here! It was lovely and perfect! Love the staff!

The Royal Hotel really gone downhill on quality and service. What was once a busy place and a fairly good place to go for a few cocktails has become a place to avoid. Firstly the service is attrocious: no warm welcome, staff is not trained and a few waitresses really need to tidy up their look. The manager that was there last night was just a waste of space, neither looking after the floor nor after his clients. Whoever train the bartenders on mixology need to review their skills too. Cocktails are not mixed properly and don't taste right - at the price they are tagged, they should! All around a bad experience and maybe it explains why the bar/lounge was empty from 10 pm onwards. Big black mark: replace some faulty furniture.
