Nessy's Chippy in Southend-on-Sea

Will never go back food was absolutely awful. Ate here before and it’s been ok, however this experience has put me off for life.

I call this the The Sportsmans: Decent little snack yesterday. Large cod, Steak pie, large battered sausage, Pancake Roll, bread and butter roll, chips, curry sauce and gravy washed down with a can of Rio. All extremely pleasurable apart from Pancake Roll but I'll let them off that! Also worth noting that prices are very reasonable. #currysauce is amazing 👏 4 stars from me!

This is the most disgusting fish and chip shop I have ever experienced in my life! The oil was clearly very old with a horrible taste to it. The fish was cooked from frozen NOT FRESH and the batter was so thick and greasy, I could vomit just thinking about it.This place cannot have passed its food hygiene inspection. WARNING ⚠️ DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH!

Pretty good fish and chips just what was needed after kitesurfing would go again.

I don't understand the good reviews here. Took myself out for a day off at the beach today and wanted to end it with a traditional fish 'n' chips supper. I'd read the reviews and made a beeline for this chippie, but I found the batter was really greasy, the chips underdone and even greasier and even the gherkin didn't smell right! The oil didn't smell good and I couldn't eat it and binned the lot. Sorry. I hate doing bad reviews, but if they want to keep the good ones, they need to not serve this level of food. I only gave 2 stars because they were sort of friendly.

Always fantastic service, thoroughly recommend the Pasty's as well.

Thought this would be good way to end a morning on the beach and the reviews seemed good. Sadly my own experience wasn’t. The batter for the cod was greasy and the 2 large chips portions were mediocre. The board said you could buy halves which I’d not heard of but apparently it’s just a small portion with the plate only half full. So I asked what a large was. The woman indicated a portion about double so I thought great I’ll have 2 larges. When I got back to the car and opened the bag the chip portions were a joke!I can’t recommend this place… unless you want greasy fish and small chip portions charged as a large.

Crispy batter, fresh chips, fresh fish. What more do you want. They provided friendly service and did not charge me extra for ketchup. I love a good chippy, and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the chips were not triple fried.Otherwise i took it down to East Beach Park and enjoyed it with the lovely view. I will definitely go back.

I consider Nessy's a 5 star fish and chip shop. It's takeaway only and the shop front is nothing to make a postcard out of, but rated on taste, quality, portion size and service this place gets top marks. My wife and I have a piece of fish each and split one chips, which is ample for us. The most important thing is the batter - here it's crispy and firm while not being over cruncy. The fish inside is firm, white and flaky, not mushy like other F&C shops. The chap and the girls serving are always friendly and your food is always, always cooked fresh :) Mushy peas are good too and overall it's good value. Some basic fizzy drinks in the refrigerator and the usually chip-shop bits on the menu.
