We went in for lunch as we had heard good things about it here from friends. Definitely wasn't disappointed. The food was awesome. I had Prawn and crayfish salad and my husband had pie and mash. It's like now where I have been before , the decor is quirky , I loved it. Would definitely recommend a visit. The staff were attentive and helpful. Looking forward to my next visit.

What a shame. One of my favourite restaurants, was so excited to enjoy my mother's day here on Sunday which was booked two weeks ago to be contacted 3 days before and told they don't allow children under 16. This should have been mentioned at the time of booking and not left until a point where finding another reservation this close will be near impossible. I've taken my son here several times, this change in policy should be communicated!! Lost a customer.

Been coming to Pipe of Port for over 30 years and they never fail to satisfy me with atmosphere, beer, port, food and service. My oldest daughter used to work here too, so definitely a place to go

This place is such a gem, my partner and I love it! Staff were friendly and inviting - wine was fantastic! I especially like how each dish has a suggested wine pairing, it's an awesome touch!

Came here for dinner while staying in Southend and loved the food so much we were back again less than a week later! Excellent wine selection, friendly service. It's certainly not cheap but I would say that it's absolutely worth it as the quality of ingredients is really high.

Visited with friends and managed to get the office, which makes a really nice venue. The menu is tried and tested, I had the six fingers of toast with anchovy, stilton and pate to start, then one of the famous pies and a Lemon merengue Eton mess. I had the Rioja to go with the meal. All round an excellent meal.

Have you even had a pie until you’ve had one here? And the dauphinois potatoes 🥔🤤. Very nice place to come in winter / around Xmas time. It’s been in the town since I was a kid, says it’s all…

So disappointed. Came for a birthday and it was really a let down. They decorated my table and the manager was really lovely. But the food was really such a let down. Took nearly an hour for 5 meals and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. One fish and chips came with just 4 chips, and they do not come cooked as advertised (triple cooked in rosemary and garlic?). We asked for more chips and they delivered two bowls of nearly raw chips. The ploughman's didn't come with bread so we had to ask for some, which was very bizarre, it is a ploughman's lunch after all. Very expensive for how small the meals are. (13 pounds for two small fish and 4 chips). The birthday girl left disappointed and let down by her favourite restaurant. We shall not return again.Lovely server let down by the kitchen staff, who we could hear swearing on different occasions.

An atmospheric basement restaurant and wine bar with excellent food and obviously a great drinks selection. Really efficient and friendly staff - our waiter Max was brilliant.Rigorous Covid precautions in place and tables have ample space around them.
