The Boatyard Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

Very nice Sunday Roast! Really well cooked. It's clear that they have good chefs in the kitchen. Served on a platter which was a bit of a new experience. Only minor criticism was that there was no Yorkshire pudding. But the entire meal was very nice!

Wonderful lunch out on the outside deck. Sunny weather really helped, service was unhurried & honest, food delicious. Only missed out on fifth star as bar staff were inundated & had to get own booze a couple of times but a lovely afternoon, thank you.

I had pre-booked a table for 6, for a late lunch at 3:30pm, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I asked for a window table to be able to see the sea and sunset over our meal. We literally arrived at 3:39pm, after difficulty finding 2 free parking places and walking down to the restaurant. The waitress at the front desk was rather rude and said “we didn’t think you were coming and gave the table away”. We were sat upstairs facing the street, which was an unpleasant shock as there were at least 4 free tables by the window at the time and less than 40% full capacity. The food was very good, the serving waitress was nice and arranged the surprise cake and candles for us at the right time. Just a huge shame about the lack of atmosphere when eating at a place that literally hangs into the sea! Not a wave in sight at our allocated table :-(

We had a lovely walk around Leigh and popped in here for a coffee, the view was amazing and the lady at the front of house couldn't have been nicer, we ended up booking tickets for an evenings entertainment in April. Very much looking forward to an evening of cocktails and fun

We decided to treat our daughter for her 21st birthday to a Sunday lunch here, having been before many times pre covid.We arrived and were shown to our table, drinks order taken and food order taken. My husband’s starter didn’t arrive and was apparently still in the oven even though 3 cold starters had already been bought to the table, not a good start. Then our mains arrived, 3 rather sinuous roast beef with strange Yorkshire puddings that were tougher than the meat! We asked for some horseradish sauce and mustard - not an unusual request for a Sunday lunch but by the time it arrived we’d mostly eaten our dinner. The waitress didn’t know one red wine from another as we had ordered different onesWe were charged for the bread on our bill which was only realised once we had paid, the waitress threw the money on the table with no apologyNeedless to say we won’t return!And we didn’t bother taking any photos!It takes a lot for me to give a bad review, most places I visit I’m really happy and will happily give at least 5 stars but try this out for yourselves, maybe we just had a bad experience ☹️

Chic restaurant with a nice vibe, nice views of the water and, in summer, a large outdoor patio area. Food is very nicely presented. The salmon that my table had was immaculately cooked. The fillet steak I had, requested medium, came out essentially rare. It was a great cut and therefore still good but not being able to cook a 1.5 inch thick steak to the requested level is a little underwhelming. Finally service was pretty appealing, unreasonably slow. Overall a good place to go but you’ll have to be patient. Wide selection of drinks.

The restaurant is gorgeous! Unfortunately the food let it down. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or the chef wasn't in, but we ordered two fillets, medium, and we were served two rump steaks both well done. They took £10 of the bill, but the steaks were £30 each. So a bit disappointing. I would try going there again though as it had a lot of potential.

I have been coming to this restaurant for years, but was disappointed with today’s lunch time atmosphere.The Saxophone was nice in the musical sense but too loud as was the piped when he took a rest.When going for a lunch time meal it involves a lot of conversation but this was hampered by the music .Then the out door ski event started on the deck with a DJ. The double sized mirrored door to the deck kept being left open. This really put a damper on the atmosphere as we were now subjected to 3 degree ambient air temperature and a ‘banging tunes’ from the deck as well as the piped music inside. That promptly emptied the restaurant ……. This is not a club and as my bill was getting on for £700 I will be more circumspect about returning…. P.S the food was the usual high standard.

What an experience, food and atmosphere were amazing. Staff couldn't to enough for you. Well worth a visit

We were celebrating and decided to visit The Boatyard. Upon arrival greeted nicely, shown to our table. We placed drinks orders, unfortunately there was no choice of non alcoholic beer or mocktails. The bar tender was able to fix up some virgin mojitos. We placed orders for starters and mains. Food arrived, but for some strange reason our mains arrived before we had even had our starters delivered to our table. We cancelled the starters and decided to have our main. Food allergies were mentioned to our server but unfortunately they got this very wrong, not impressed. We had no cutlery, napkins, no mention of condiments. Quite promptly a Manager/Owner arrived to try and rectify the situation and apologise for the blunders. The food was amazing but it's just a shame that the service didn't follow suit. We were offered our dessert as a gesture of goodwill by Management which we greatly appreciated. This was our first visit to The Boatyard and would like to return. the four stars is for the lovely standard and quality of food.
