The Hog Smokehouse in Southend-on-Sea

Been here few time.Seems since its been under new owners. Prices have risen and the food quality not as good.On a sat eve restaurant was 3/4 empty where before would never get a table on the day.Service was good just in our view food and prices let it down.We won't go back in a hurry sadly .

Ordered the Ribs with a side of Brisket...unfortunately the ribs were off and I had to return them. The staff were apologetic, credited my account, I re-ordered, choosing the sirloin steak med-rare which arrived.. really delicious, especially with the in-house smoked butter, but was on the rare side of med-rare...my wife's med-rare rib-eye steak was overdone (very medium) but was still delicious. The chips and aarm bbq sauce were great...

Arrived here with my wife and daughter who had booked us a table for my birthday.Ignored on arriving 'no, "ill be with you in a moment", or any acknowledgement from waitress. Left standing like lemons for a while. Eventually shown to a table. No drinks offered, after quarter of an hour we just left, and got back in the car. Gave our money to an Italian restaurant, Spaghetti Junction, who were appreciative of custom. Moreover, the food was superb.

Some of the food was very good, some not. So, hit n miss I guess. The young female staff made several mistakes to our orders thru out the evening, very slow at taking our orders. Salty caramel dessert sauce, you could actually see the salt !!We did get a couple of deserts refunded.Would not want to go there if it was busy.Probably wouldn't return 😕

Atmosphere was good on entrance but drinks are expensive. On a Sunday the restaurant advertise a Sunday roast but we were told that has to be pre ordered and the restaurant has a reputation to keep . As we a birthday party we given a bottle of sparkly for free which was a nice touch. Orders were taken and brought out . Two of the chicken wings were cold so sent back to our dismay the owner came with a food probe sticking out of chicken suggesting it was the required temperature to serve . He then said the chicken is cooked so we won't get sick . If I wanted cold chicken I would've ordered cold chicken . Our mains turned up and the burger I had was cold so were the ribs . I told the manager and suggested if he brought them probe out I would stick it where the sun don't shine. I found the owner rude but he did take the burger off the bill . I would never go back there and suggest or recommend nobody eats there.

Got here 10 minutes before our booking. Was seated with hardly any customers in the restaurant. They took our drink order, which we ordered a bottle of wine. 45 minutes later and still didn't come over to us to take our order, even though we kept making eye contact with the waitress. We drank our bottle of wine and left. Poor service and would not go back again!!!!

Myself and my partner came to Gallachers for the first time tonight after seeing the menu onlineStaff: mostly young and inexperienced, pleasant enough.Food: I ordered the pig out platter, the ribs were mostly fat the sauce had an unusual taste. The pulled pork was okay, chips hard ?frozen chips. Chicken was flavourless and chewy.Partner ordered the ribeye steak, mostly fatty and soft more fat than meat. Stated it came with coleslaw but came with salad. Again chips hard.Manager was nice enough and asked if everything was okay, explained it wasn’t and was offered a complimentary drink or desert but both felt disappointed with main and wanted to leave. Ended up paying full price around £60 for this.Asked young waitress for the bill, 10mins later had still not arrived had to ask again.Not busy in there yet service was questionable, our starters were brought out (3 tators) just on the dish no side plates given until we had eaten them!Ceilings had also just been plastered not a good look..Would 100% not recommend and not return.

Wow. Just got home from an amazing ribs extravaganza! Great red wine, superb meat & the service was so friendly. All 5 of us loved it… will be back for the Sunday roast dinner soon! Thank you x

I went in with high hopes but sadly, both of our meals comprised overpriced, overcooked meat. Very fatty steak, and brisket was soft, but so dry - even with the sauce. The chips were flavourless and salad was drenched in oil. And £60 for the pleasure! It's such a shame, but it's just not authentic BBQ and I wouldn't recommend it.

Food was bland, grey, and disappointing. Called to see if I could return the food and get refunded (takeaway) and was told by the new owner Ricardo that ‘you ordered food, you got food’. At any other restaurant if you have an issue with the food you would get refunded but all I got was rudeness and bad attitude. Will never go back. Even the cats didn’t like it.
