The Mayflower in Southend-on-Sea

The Mayflower always provides very good seafood dishes which bring us back throughout the year, with tables indoor and outside.The real ale is knockout especially Proper Job and always have quality guest ales. Cider on tap too.The regulars are friendly and there is always a good atmosphere.The staff are always helpful and accomodating too.If you want a relaxing meal and a chat with a friend or friends, without fuss or formality, the Mayflower is an excellent choice in Old Leigh.If you want a quiet drink and are walking your well behaved 🐕 you will feel at home too.

Popped in here for bit of lunch and got some fish and chips and it was amazing would definitely come back.

We had fish and chips from the takeaway next to the pub and I've got to say they were damn good! Perfect chips, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The cod was fresh and fluffy. I will definitely be driving back (1 hours drive) for more. Disclaimer; I never write reviews about chips normally

Such a great place for a pint and fish n chips. Warm and welcoming, with delicious food.

Me and my husband went out for a lovely walk along the beach and saw this little pub,tucked away and through we would have a quick drink, whilst in there we saw some of the food coming out and thought we would have a bite to eat.My god, it was the best decision we made, the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was great and really friendly.This will now be my guilty pleasure when the kids are at school.

Chips fresh and generous portions so nothing to say about them but nothing to write home about.The cod though??? The batter was stodgy and not cooked properly but “cooked fresh” and it wasn’t busy so no excuse really. Peeled it off cos was so gross. The cod itself was good quality but come on, if you’re a well known fish and chips place your fish should be amazing, not meh. Happy didn’t go for the cod bites or anything else fried!

Dog friendly pub with fish and chip takeaway attached. Nice atmosphere, bar food and friendly staff. Four stars due to limited beers selection which is probably due to Covid. Will definitely return.

A lovely, friendly little pub/fish and chip restaurant/fish and chip takeout/ice cream outlet, tucked away at the quieter end of Old Leigh. Clean, well managed and comfortable. And homely! Thoroughly recommended!

We have visited the Mayflower for take away meals several times over the years and never disappointed. We had a bit of a wait for the cod and chips but we'll worth it. Fish was beautifully fresh (as always), cooked to perfection and chip portions generous too. Very reasonably priced. Also like the Al fresco dining area. Rustic wooden benches under umbrellas where one can sit and eat and watch the world go by. Lovely vibe!
