The best pie chips and gravy ever!

Brilliant food and service. The chips are cooked to perfection and fish is just so light and crispy. Doesn't taste greasy at all. Chip portion is geneours and a large cod is enough to feed two people!A tad pricey but well worth it in my opinion. Great for family lunch over the weekend.

Don't normally leave negative reviews but this place has gone downhill. Used to be very nice. Recently got, price increase is very large and not updated on the website, chips refried so tasted like they were soaked in oil, with old bits stuck that come from not replacing the oil see attached photo. Should not be charging 4 pounds for large chips if quality is as such. Understandable to increase price considering recent circumstances but should be reflected in the quality and certainly should be on the website. Mainly disappointed at quality. 2 stars as fish and tartar sauce still tasted nice but do feel ripped off. Used to drive from st Albans won't be doing so any more

Great traditional fish and chips that really is a cut above the restWe travel from St Albans to eat in here or grab a takeaway. Both the chips and fish are both really crispy and dry, not soggy and greasy at all. The tartare sauce is nice and tangy. You can eat in and enjoy the Tudor style building and wood beams. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The only downside to eating in is due to the age of the building the stairs are steep and narrow, perhaps not the best for those with limited mobility.Nice range of soft drinks including a good ginger beer and Dandelion and burdock.

Fresh, tasty, good portion.Always come here when I’m in the area.Scampi is also good, as well as all the fish.Good value for money. And if you sit in, they give you a whole jar of tartare sauce. Could finish a whole jar, it’s homemade and tasty! If you take away they give you a tiny tub and you have to pay for more.

Called this morning to see whether there was a table free at lunch time & explained we would arrive at 1.15pm.I arrived with my elderly father and was taken to a room upstairs where we had our lunch.Unfortunately the room was freezing cold and a small electric heater was switched on upon our arrival,We were wholly disappointed to say the least and whilst the food was good, we were not offered any form of voucher or refund for an uncomfortable hour! We will not be returning!

I went there because the one near me in Bushey is shut for months due to staff shortages. So I went to Harpenden on a Friday about 6:30pm bad timing. It was packed inside like sardines, never again. A regular fish & chips is gone up 9.20, it wasn't that great either. No organization inside, people are all over the place, you don't know when you're being served. Long waiting time 30-45min. All they do is shout a number because of noise you can't hear them. Totally ridiculous the way they operate, something needs to be done and fast.

Great fish and chips, but love their chips most. The portion of the regular Cod is hugh. Think next time I will order the small instead!

Fantastic Chip shop, the food is amazing! I haven't had Fish & Chips this good in many years. The small meal is very generous on size and the dips are wonderful, curry sauce tastes so Yummy! The building is a old building making it a nice place to sit in and eat , the place is tidy and clean and spotless. Quick service and didn't wait long at all for food. Lovely wooden tables and chairs, very comfortable. I would recommend this to everyone who wants real tasty Fish & Chips.
