Number 23 in St Albans

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times now, and it is absolutely one of the very best in St Albans. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic food and great service. Book a table to avoid disappointment, and try the Whole Baked Camembert.

Superb birthday lunch! Excellent service and delicious food. It was our first visit and we'll certainly be back. I'm very fussy and this was a little gem.

Fantastic meal. Try this for something a bit different. We were worried that the did might not fill us up, but we were wrong. Tasty food and great service.

I've been wanting to visit here for a while as I'm a fan of tapas and I noticed it had good reviews. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing! We ordered chorizo in Merlot reduction, it was a measly portion size and burnt to a crisp. The beetroot and goats cheese was inedible, vinegar and chilli don't mix!Although the staff were friendly all in all the food was a huge let down and I think the kitchen staff are just that 'kitchen staff' as I don't think a real chef would send out food that bad.

Fantastic tapas in a historic, cosy and unique environment. Spicy Squid and Chorizo in Merlot were particular favourites. It was great to share so many super dishes. Staff were very personable. Highly recommended!

Nice small cozy little restaurant that served tapas food. Good range for vegetarians and taste was quite decent. It's quiet and you can come here with a group of around 8 people.

Favourite place to go in St Albans. Food is always really tasty, service always friendly. Tapas dishes let you try lots of different things at once!

"Charmed us with thoughtful and helpful advice"We've now been to Number 23 on three evenings, and a lunch too, and on each occasion had great meals in a great atmosphere. The restaurant's owner, Glyn, is very welcoming and attentive. He remembers that you've been before and that you've come back like an old friend, and in our case, we brought with us old friends. Glyn is rightly proud of his restaurant and the team that runs it: but find out for yourself.His lovely sister, Cerian, charmed us with her thoughtful and helpful advice about the menu, testing what we had previously enjoyed and suggesting new items that Chef Dan had created. We were being an awkward bunch, with fussy eaters, vegetarians, and timid stick-in-the-muds amongst our gang. Nothing disappointed; everything delicious. With more than a score of different Tapas to choose from, some traditional, some exotic, and everything in between, everyone was able to feast. Nothing went to waste even though we were all full. Good wines (and good company) made for a grand night out.St Albans has some great restaurants it’s true, but few can match the quality and value for money that Number 23 has consistently done for me. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough!

Had Christmas lunch with a party of 11 friends + kids. Food was great, wine was great. Kids were a bit messing around, but the guys were very understanding. Will be back.

We ate here as the restaurant was opening so can't comment on atmosphere, though I can imagine it buzzes when busy.What I can say is the food was lovely and the service very friendly.The tapas style lends itself to a relaxed meal.Happy to eat there again.
