Great original and important pub in a historic area of the city. Excellent range of independent cask ales - it's a must

·

In a city of excellent pubs, this may well be my favourite. A good selection of beers (even eeking out a couple of solid cask beer choices on a quiet January day which is a good sign), friendly staff, a small selection of interesting but very tasty food.Super dog friendly and kid free the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere can best be described as receiving a warm hug with your beer. An old school style pub done right.

Very much enjoyed our visit to the Lower Red. Good to see David. Good beers at a sensible price.

·

Good cosy pub, friendly staff. Nicely spaced inside.

·

The perfect pub. Cosy, friendly, love dogs. Homemade food (especially pies and mash) are amazing!

·

Possibly the best pub in St Albans. Good selection of well kept ales and ciders, friendly staff and regulars.

·

Great pub for lovers of traditional pubs..contemporary old school, accommodation availablegood pub garden for a pub in this locationexcellent foodexcellent landlord and staffenjoy these gems while we can

·

A former 17th century coaching inn and now a pub/B&B - so maybe a 21st century coaching inn!Having two bars, an open fire, real ales and traditional decor, this is a ‘proper’ pub. Dog but not children-friendly works well, given its size. The quality of the excellent food didn’t surprise me but the variety did; exceeding my expectations.A gem of a place - just tucked away far enough from the centre. So pleased that it hasn’t disappeared like the Blue Anchor and Black Lion - instead it seems to have thrived!

Still a pub as I remembered many years agoEnjoyable Sunday lunch with good friend’sReally nice staffFood was excellent and served as it should be desserts nice but in my opinion are priced as high end restaurant desserts which whilst good are not
