The Prae Wood Arms in St Albans

Excellent pub with a great garden area, food was very good but a little pricey. Good for kids. Staff are friendly and the service is excellent

Wonderful pub on the edge of St Alban's, with indoor and outdoor dining areas as well as a large beer garden. The menu is loaded to the website everyday, and dietary requirements are extremely well catered for. There is a separate gluten free menu with lots of options. The carpark is large but does get full on a sunny day at the weekend. The pub's website also links to a nearby hiking route, if you want to walk off your lunch.

Huge outside space and fast service. Good if you have children. Helpful and friendly staff. Entrance is concealed, as the pub is not on the road side, they could use more signs to advertise themselves, it is easy to miss the turn.

Stopped off for a drink and a light bite. Smart period interior with some maintained houseplants which set a fairly sophisticated tone. Small but varied menu of bar food which was tasty and well portioned.Expansive, yet quiet garden on multiple levels.Staff were all presented nicely but seemed to be looking for things to do, wasn’t an issue but not something I’d like to notice whilst I’m trying to relax.Would return and would recommend.

The location is beautiful and its a lovely building. There is also ample parking which is great. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I have visited a few times in past year and the food has always been good. Unfortunately though the service always seems to be slow. on the first few visits I put it down to them being busy and various post covid issues however I have also visited on a weekday when it was quiet and it was still very slow. They took a while to come and take the order and the food took forever to come. We were also left with dirty plates for approx an hour. The staff were very pleasant and there was a few working it just felt like it lacked in organisation. Its just a shame because its a beautiful location and the food is good.

Myself and my friend came to the Prae for dinner and it did not disappoint. We were greeted promptly and seated at our table and were asked if we had any dietary requirements. The atmosphere was very relaxed but busy with meal sittings and also people just choosing to have a drink outside in the garden area.We shared some nibbles to start and I chose the Chicken Jalfrezi which was delicious, and my friend chose the Goats Cheese Tortellini. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our mains and service was really efficient.The staff were attentive throughout our visit. It is a wonderful location and restaurant and I look forward to my next trip.

Great food and atmosphere! We had the Fried Seabass (fillet, a great addition so that we did not have to pick out the bones) and the Roast Chicken, and everything was perfect. The Triple Chocolate Brownie was also amazing.The weather and the sun played also a big part in the experience. Will definitely come again!

I really like the location. It has many rooms with real english atmosphere. It has a big garden as well. Food was good, but not my type (bit too heavy). Vegetarian options not completely clear.

Lovely pub in a beautiful setting. Serving typical pub food. Food does let’s it down a little. Roast was not the best with meat a little dry. However fish and chips were good. Prices were reasonable. Roast £15-£20 cheapest main was burger £14

This pub is lovely. The staff, decor and the ambience is welcoming and cosy. They have a lovely roaring fireplace which you can sit next to and enjoy a drink.We had the turkey roast and the vegetarian mushroom, chestnut and lentil Wellington.My husband said the turkey roast is one of the best roasts he had ever had. Everything was fantastic.The Wellington and trimmings unfortunately lacked flavour but was a very generous portion size.We also had mulled wine which is some of the tastiest mulled wine we have had. For dessert we had a scoop of honeycomb ice cream and the sticky toffee pudding which was pretty standard. The portion of the pudding is very generous portion but the ice cream portions are very small small (or maybe that’s because a lot of it melted by the time we got it.)We would definitely visit again.
