Absolutely gorgeous food, fantastic service and a beautiful location, We all left happy, content, full! and feeling like we had a special evening. The tasting menu and service makes it feel like much more than just going for a meal. Perfect!

We visited for New Years Eve and had a brilliant night mostly due to the superb staff. We arrived and a little early to have a drink in the bar. The staff were very welcoming and were happy to work around us, moving from the bar back to our table when it suited us. The bar is well stocked and the staff very knowledgeable. Our waitress made us feel that her main concern was ensuring we had a good evening. She was very knowledgeable about the drinks and happy to make suggestions. We had the 9 course set menu but had one vegetarian, one no shellfish, one no fish and one eats anything. The waitress was on top of our choices all night.Every course was delicious from the tasters, through the fish courses, beef and desserts. This was not a cheap night but we had nearly six hours through into the new year and was actually really good value. We will be back.

Lovely food, great staff, despite a 5 year old with us it was a great success. First time all, all the food was eaten by our young boy.. the bill wasn't a shock as I was expecting circa £100 pp

Fabulous 7 course tasting menu. Good value. Adjusted seamlessly for Gluten free. Freindly, efficient staff looked after us well.

Having birthday dinner with family. Excellent food and good service. Highly recommended.

The food was lovely and the service was exceptional. Special shout-out to Dominic (sp?) who was our wait staff upstairs. He was so kind and friendly, and it made our experience that much more special. Our favourite courses were the yellowfin tuna, liver parfait, rump of lamb, and cheese board. The wine pairing with each was great, especially for the lamb. We didn't love the trout, as it needed salt and the cucumber overpowered the dish. We also didn't like the post-meal margaritas from the cocktail bar, as the whole drink tasted like salt. Other than those two points, we had an absolutely perfect time celebrating my partner's birthday! Well done Thompson.

Amazing dinning experience, had a great birthday celebration there. I liked the fact the whole table didn't have to choose exactly the same tasting menu. We were also able to have our own cake! Highly recommend as a place for celebratory meals!

Had a wonderful evening celebrating a 45th wedding anniversary, and 2 of us reaching retirement age. The personable Will talked us through the Mid-week Treat menu. Pre-dinner drinks outside and dinner in the conservatory. Food,  drinks, and service all excellent.  Add the great, relaxed, atmosphere and the nice touch at the end, to make a wonderful, memorable evening! Great value! Can't recommend this place enough. I'll be visiting again soon,  just to celebrate it being there!

It's good but not amazing!I've been here twice now for the taster menu. The restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin Guide but I don't think most of these dishes are Michelin quality...The service is good and the waiters are very friendly and informative, but the food could really be better. Some of the dishes are just a bit boring. There are a lot of hidden gems outside of London which really are up there in terms of taste, creativity and attention to detail. but unfortunately I wouldn't rate this as one of them.Maybe I'll come again in a few months time and see if things have changed. I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. It's definitely the best in St Albans but I don't feel like the town generally has much to offer.I go by the idea that if I can only take a decent picture of 4 out of 7 courses then the other 3 need some work.I'm also not a big fan of carpets in restaurants but the ceilings are quite low so I understand why it was done.
