Harriets Cafe and Tearooms in St Edmundsbury

We had a delicious lunch in Harriet tea rooms. But what made our lunch 5 stars was the service we received. The lady who looked after us made us feel very special and valued. Thank you very much.

Very nice welcome, order taken. But wasn't asked if everything was ok or if we would like anything else. We only had sandwiches and drinks. We were sat near the doorway, I think we were forgotten about. I did try to get someone's attention but not successful. My husband had his eye on a scone. I usually have a scone and extra pot of tea, whenever we visit tearooms. We have visited some of the finest. I can't complain about the food, it was delicious. Just a shame, I was a little disappointed 😞

Sadly my last few visits have been less than impressive. This was once a lovely tearooms but sadly the food quality and menu options have gone downhill. They have reduced their menu by at least 50%. We’re over the covid excuses now for offering reduced service and choice. They also seem to turn staff over at an alarming rate. Such a shame as we used to visit often. On my last visit, 3 of our table ordered baked potatoes and they arrived slightly hard and with very minimal toppings. I could barely find a baked bean and there was a lacklustre sprinkle of cheese. It seriously can’t hurt to add a generous topping for the price charged. There are far better value for money options in town now. Very disappointed and sadly won’t be visiting again.

Not been here for a while..... Disappointing for us.... The coffee was very dark and tasteless and the crockery (coffee mug) was cracked and chipped .... Lovely rooms but the tea service let's it down. As a tea room I would expect dainty cakes and such on pretty plates. Wouldn't visit again sadly.

Staff friendly and location nice and clean. Had a breakfast and small for price. Grilled tomato was not cooked. When I say not cooked it was just a tomato cut in half not even attempted to be cooked. I would of expected at least a grilled whole tomato. They really should have offered a discount.

Had a lovely breakfast before shopping consisting of crumpets, scones with a cappuccino but try the afternoon tea it's a must 😋

Lovely little place, the music choice was so wonderful and the tea was gorgeous! Very homely and yet refined, it felt very vintage and I cant wait to go back! Food was good too :) their vegan breakfast was great!

The staff are lovely and my partners food was okay, he had a panini and the other diners’ cream teas looked nice. However, when they brought the vegan breakfast to my table, I could barely contain my disappointment. The bread was dry had been spread with a thin layer of grey looking avocado, which had an overpowering lemon taste. One hash brown and some greasy mushrooms ( I didn’t want the beans). For just under £9. I wouldn’t recommend.

Came here for a friend’s birthday celebration, they have lovely service but some of the workers had no idea what some of the teas are on the menu.It had a beautiful atmosphere but I gave 4 stars because the Almond cake that I ordered was £3.75 which is the same price as a chocolate cake but the size of it was so much smaller and to be honest, it doesn’t look like a cake?.. anyways the almond cake was still nice I would just appreciate it if it was the same size.

The Bury St Edmunds branch of Harriets is currently behind scaffolding so keep your eyes peeled if it's your first time looking for it. Lovely service and certainly the number one afternoon tea venue in BSE.Although the place is usually spotless, on this occasion a cheesy biscuit was spotted on the floor at the table next to us. We were too horrified to draw it to the attention of staff. Our condition is currently stable and we are recovering at home.Edit 21/08/18: we visited today (Tuesday midday) and the tearoom was understaffed. Tables remained uncleared, several customers (including us) sent food back - even after significant delays (on the rationale that our items 'had not met quality standards, so were sent back to the kitchen'). We sent our delayed food back as it was cold. Another couple sent their soup back for the same reason. Our bill was not brought to the table as it usually is and it took an eternity for our change to be brought back having paid on receipt of the bill. However, our food was replaced with a slightly warmer yet still unsatisfactory version and the item deducted from the bill.It's not the first time a considerable delay in service has been blamed on 'quality control' issues. If this really is the case then for goodness sake sort the kitchen out. I'd love Harriets to remain a quality product in Bury as there's not enough about so I hope someone with some sway addresses the issues which are creeping in here.
