Really Rather Good in St Edmundsbury

Coffee house with very traditional snack menu. Disappointing Ploughman's served with sliced bread and small portion of cheddar and stilton.

we don't live in the area but came here last summer and sat outside, nice outdoor seating area and food was nicely presented and tasty, came back on a cold February day and sat inside . Not quite the same experience this time. staff were very pleasant and the toasted sandwiches took a while to come but as the place was busy we were happy to wait. the cafetiere of coffee was good and nice and hot but the actual container itself looked rather grubby and off putting. the toasted sandwiches arrived and although they tasted nice they weren't very well presented, literally placed on a plate with no presentation involved , mine was also burnt underneath and had obviously been turned over to hide the fact. would have been nice to have had a little bit of salad garnish or something. unfortunately the place looks like it could do with some tlc, very tatty paintwork and in my opinion the place looked quite grubby. the stairs down to the toilet were really dirty and the toilet seat was hanging off.

There really are a Lot of coffee shops in Bury St Edmund's, people must be addicted to the stuff to keep them all in business and I confess than when visiting my family there I have tried a few. This one tops my list. The position is excellent over looking the Angel Hill and they have an excellent range of coffee's, tea's and chocolates. An impressive range of sandwiches and cakes plus soft and alcoholic beverages, nice word that. My wife was very impressed with a shot of bailey's in her hot chocolate. I'd recommend the spicy capachino, it has a posh name but as they couldn't pronounce it why should we! 😊

Overall good experience. I went here for a couple of hot chocolates and was pleased with the flavour, speed, and service. Since it was raining outside, we sat inside by the counter. But it was quite sticky and dirty so, on second thoughts, it would have been better to take it to go.

Sat outside under the covers due to Covid, but warmed up by the Mulled wine which was nice but the hot chocolate was unfortunately not hot and not mixed properly and tasted grainy, we would have asked for another but we were short on time.

To start, we have been in this cafe every time we visit Bury St Edmunds, and up until now have received excellent service. There seems to have been a change in management. Called in here for a lunchtime cuppa. All we wanted was 2 teas. I asked the proprietor to clear the table we were sitting at, to which he said he would when he had more time which I thought was rather rude. We then sat there for 25 minutes waiting whilst we watched people who ordered long after us get their order before us. When I eventually asked a waitress where our order was, she asked what we were having. At this point, the proprietor intervened and said “it’s up there all done”. I said, that it would be better if we had it at our table.I think he is in need of some customer care training. Absolutely appalling way to treat customers. All I can say is this will be the last time I come in here.

Nice selection of teas. Had a really good goat cheese salad here and a nice scone to finish it off. We were sitting in front with views on the gate to the abbey gardens. There's no table service so remember your table number and order inside. Friendly and helpful staff.

A cozy place to have breakfast in this small little town. Very helpful and friendly staff. Scones are delicious too. What a lovely day.

As a Bury boy, and ex presenter on British Forces radio in Gibraltar, I cannot say enough how proud this awning made me. I've not tried the coffee yet, but looking at this, I may well do! It's also got nods from my mates in Gib who still work with the forces.Amazing, Thank You all at RRG x
