My partner and I have always really enjoyed coming to the Northgate for cocktails and dinner, so it was a no-brainer to book the Northgate for our wedding weekend at the end of 2021 (after having our wedding cancelled in 2020). All in all we were a little disappointed. My fiance and I booked a large room for three nights and the rest of the wedding party booked all bar one of the other rooms. The whole party enjoyed a (really nice) three course dinner the evening before the wedding, and had many cocktails and drinks over the course of the weekend. So, between us we spent thousands at this hotel. Now, I'm no Bridezilla; I didn't expect super exceptional treatment just because it was our wedding. But *something* would have been nice. A cheap bottle of fizz, or a complimentary plate of chocs when we got back to our hotel room after the wedding (which I sort of thought was a standard practice in a fancyish hotel) would have been nice. It was a shame because we assumed that because the Northgate is small, they would be better able to add in those extra touches that cost them very little but make you feel a bit extra special, rather than at a big hotel where you might get forgotten about. And the whole thing was made all the more disappointing when we think about how much money our family spent at the Northgate over that weekend.Ultimately, I think the Northgate is a nice restaurant that has some rooms attached and their staff are primarily waiters/bar staff not hoteliers. If the Northgate were to improve, I would suggest looking at improving the hotel aspect of their customer service- it wouldn't take much, but a little goes a long way.Until then, I wouldn't recommend The Northgate as a place to stay for a special occasion like a wedding/honeymoon/anniversary. I'd go to the Angel instead, they're pros!

Just had an fantastic 2 night stay. The staff were brilliant - very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and food were both excellent. Breakfast outside on the patio with friends and family was a real highlight.

Good bar and restaurant with a quiet garden setting. Had a few beers, very relaxing, service good. Liked, outside a bit deceptive, could do with a few hanging baskets to invite in, would help.

The food was lovely, I had the plaice 2 ways and was very happy with the egg Custard tart! Interior was very nice and the temperature of the room was comfortable. The service was pretty good, and the only thing I would say is the toilets need some attention, but it wouldn't stop me from going back again!

Visited Northgate on Sunday for lunch with friends. This Victorian town house has been transformed into restaurant and cocktail bar and is part of the Chestnut group of pubs. Whilest the decor is cool and trendy we found the food to be a little bit of style over substance. Everything was just OK, but nothing really stood out I would say that the presentation of the food was excellent, but I found my starter lacking in seasoning and was quite bland with no expected smokeness as described on the menu ( See image) Anyway, we have now visited, but don't think we will be returning for a little while...in order to give it another try.

We stayed here for a night and dined at the Chef's Table which was a great experience. Food was amazing and we had the nicest room I've stayed in so far at the Chestnut properties. Cocktails were really good as well.

A huge thank you to all at the Northgate for yet another lovely celebration! It was my wife's 30th Birthday and everyone went above and beyond to accommodate us and make it such a special event (as always). We have had many fantastic experiences at this hotel throughout the years and never have we once been disappointed, whether it be just an evening dinner or full blown party.... Thank you so much for all your effort always, you can't beat this hotel!

Beautiful meal had by the 4 of us. I had the beef cheek it was just stunning. Really good coffee too. The only criticism I would have is whilst the staff are all lovely and friendly they are not very 'attentive'. Don't do service checks, / ask if you need anything else / offer more drinks or check your drinks are coming when they can see you've been waiting. If they can nail that then 5 stars. I'd def recommend a visit and will go back.
