Aldeburgh Fish and Chips in Suffolk Coastal

This was my first experience of the famous Aldeburgh Fish n Chips, Where do is start. Upon arrival the man who served us was particularly arrogant, and treated me and my partner like outsiders. The food had been sitting around for a while so the chips were only warm (not hot), the fish cakes were Luke warm and dry, and the customer service was even colder than the food. To top it off the portions were only fit for a child, so maybe if more effort was put into treating your customers with care then maybe some of this care would transfer into the food as well.

The chips were alright. The fish was full of bones but worst of all the man that served us was totally rude and made us feel very unwelcome the moment we walked into the shop.Judging by other recent reviews it would seem we are not the only people who have experienced this. Having enjoyed visiting Aldeburgh and this particular fish and chip shop over the years, I feel very disappointed and I sadly will never visit Aldeburgh again.

I visited this place several years ago on a couple of occasions, and their chips were superlative - totally got why they were award winners. Crisp, not very oily, pleasant within, with a few scraps at the bottom. Basically faultless. Chips worthy of a pilgrimage from out of town.However, visited twice in past month, and chips were super-disappointing in comparison. They were both times under done and unremarkable. The second time (yesterday), I asked for the chips to be well-done and commented that my last experience was disappointing. The girl serving said it was not in her control and said something to the guy cooking behind her, and I was basically told they would come as they come. I said I would judge the shop on that basis then. Unfortunately, they were the same as the previous lot.No idea why they seem to have changed their standard. Perhaps to be healthier, since clearly cooked for less time. They will still be coasting on credentials of being award-winners, so may still be commanding queues (about 10 mins that day), but their reputation is likely to suffer.This review is limited to the chips, which I think is the bread and butter of a fish and chip shop. The fish I had in previous years was fine, and the condiments (curry sauce, mushy peas, gherkins) I had on both previous recent occasions were of a high standard.I don't want this shop to continue disappointing, so I recommend they do a survey to see how people actually like their chips, and whether they would appreciate them better done. I would pay a bit extra to have choice of two grades (pale or golden).Until they change, I won't bother getting chips from here again, and sad to say, the gulls got a large portion of my chips from yesterday. Owners and cooks at the shop - please pay attention to this review!!!

Cycled 100 miles for these chips and they were well worth it, the only let down was the service by a rude I cant smile, not happy in my job lady... the chips and easy 5stars though

A short queue - lucky for us.Delicious, non greasy, super tasty fish and chips for us - even luckier for us.Can't fault the food, the service, the prices.

Good quality and taste, much better than normal backstreet chippies and I would rather drive the extra distance to go here (or to Mrs T's in Southwold 5*!) than go local. I must admit the portion sizes here are smaller and I have found bones in the fish before, but that's a minor criticism because it certainly didn't stop me from enjoying them.

Visited in late March and it fully lived up to expectations. I only had the chips but my friend had fish and chips which they throughly enjoyed. Honestly some of the crispiest and fluffy chips I’ve ever had. Not too greasy either, my mouth is watering just thinking about them now.

We were very disappointed with today's experiences of this old favourite. Service without a smile I can forgive when they're really busy but portion size was shocking. 4 medium cod and chips, a portion of Scampi, 2 wooden knives and forks and 2 tomato ketchups for £33. For that money I'd expect to have almost too much to eat. In fact, normally at this fish and chips shop we do have lots of leftovers. Today we were so embarrassed about the portion sizes that we didn't say anything to my mother and her partner because we didn't want them to feel guilty for wasting our money. Given there is so much competition in Aldeburgh, we have absolutely no reason to visit this place again. What a shame. Are there new owners?

I have had many seaside fish and chips in my life, these were amongst the best if not the very best. Great service from friendly staff and a great little town and sea front to enjoy whilst eating them.

Our previous visit for fish n chips was disappointing(not this shop) , not sure if all of them are connected by family as they advertise other places, but this meal was excellent, fish was beautifully cooked and large , thin batter, good portion of chips and at just under£14 for two portions really good value, the 15 min queue was worth it👍
