As Aldeburgh chip shop was shut, we went here for Fish 'n' Chips. The chips were really yummy, and the fish was okay, maybe not the best piece of battered fish I've ever had the pleasure of consuming, but certainly not the worst either. Staff were friendly, quick, and efficient in getting through a big queue of hungry people.

Okay so the reviews and recommendations for this place were really good, and when we got to The Golden Galleon there were queues even just as the doors opened (1630) I was really expecting something special!I was massively let down! We ordered two medium cod, chips, one curry sauce and a bread roll for just under £17 which was served to us in a paper bag!The fish looked fresh and meaty wrapped in a nice golden coloured batter. What let this fish down was that the fillet was riddled with small bones which for me takes away the enjoyment of eating the fish. The chips were okay at best, the golden galleon cooks chips in beef dripping which is a welcomed change but unfortunately these flavours didn’t come across in the chips at all.The chips were served in a paper bag and by the time we got to our car (2 mins away from the chippie) they were soggy and not a crispy chip in sight.By looking at all the positive reviews I can only assume that we experienced the golden galleon on a bad day!Based on my experience today I would not visit the golden galleon in the future.

Everyone will have their own different opinion on everything. I would travel the 70 miles distance from where i live, just to have Haddock and Chips from The Golden Galleon or its sister shop a little further up the road. Crisp batter and golden chips cooked to perfection. Even the long wait in the queue outside is worth it. Reasonably priced too.Just returned for the bank holiday. Just as good, well worth the trip.

Long queue (always the way here) but was well worth the wait. Absolutely delicious haddock and chips. Staff member was very friendly and cheerful despite being run ragged. I would highly recommend - one of the best fish and chip meals I've ever had.

The service was polite but the food was unfortunately not, I sent back one meal because the fish was overcooked by a long was and was a little brown inside the same colour as tinned sardines, my replacement was again overcooked in parts with a jelly like residue in others, the chips were revolting and although we complained at the time and were not charged for our bill, I shall never be going back or recommending this restaurant to anyone ...

Massive queue. Waited for 25 minutes to get to the shop!I didn't think it was worth the wait, as neither the fish or chips were anything special. I had better many times.

³Had a trip to Aldeburgh today, lovely bracing walk along the shoreline as far as the shell monument, then headed back to find some fish and chips. Came to the Golden Galleon, and although a queue outside, full covid precautions in place, but very quick service ,in and out in under 5 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyable cod and chips, piping hot and definitely good value for money, good end to a thoroughly enjoyable walk around such a beautiful part of Suffolk.

I’m so glad I ordered a portion of heavily coated scampi to go with my lightly battered cod & chips with mushy peas because the medium cod was very small and full of bones Serious lessons need to be learned from my favorite chippy @ North bay fisheries in Scarborough.

Curiousity got the better of me. Why on earth is there a queue outside the fish and chip shop at 430pm in the afternoon? And the queue did not end. So I asked those eating on the beach wall whether it was all that it is hyped up to be. I kept getting broad smiles and thumbs up. So I started queuing and did the sit down thing at The Upper Deck. Less queue pay more but very comfy - no seagulls diving to take your fish. Fully equipped table - salt and vinegar, ketchup, tartar sauce and mayonnaise. Wide choice of sides. Ordered the cod and haddock. Both great. Why is this so good? The batter for the fish is special. The chips and thickly cut and tasty. Conclusion. Best fish and chips in a long while. Aldeburgh Fish and Chips, the Golden Galleon and the Upper Deck are all run by the same owners!
