We were staying in the village and really looking forward to a meal here, as having already popped our head in when we arrived we'd seen the good menu and lovely decor. What a disappointment. The food was nice, but nothing special (think typical London gastropub fare) and so overpriced! £8 for a kids macaroni cheese!Service was pretty terrible too. Ordered drinks and some bread to start, drinks took ages to arrive and then the mains turned up 5 minutes later. No bread. So we had to hastily drink the cocktails and order wine. We also weren't offered a high chair despite having a toddler with us and ordering a kids meal.Has the potential to be a really great place, but they really need to improve to justify the prices they're charging.

A mixed bag. Visited yesterday. Went to get drinks at the bar - nobody around for several minutes and we had to search for someone to talk to. Lovely beer garden at the back, though. Then went inside for dinner. The staff seemed a little unsure of themselves - all quite junior and a bit slow. They were not doing a good job of monitoring us - when you work in a restaurant and you're walking around you need to be keeping eyes open. We got the first starter (pork belly - tasty) after 40 mins. Mains were mixed - good crispy haddock, but the roast beef was over-cooked (in our view) and the cauliflower, while very tasty, was too pricey for what amounted to four little florets. We requested the bill, but it never came so we got up and paid at the bar. I think there are lots of positives, but the serving staff just need to wake up a fraction. Dinner's never good if you're craning your neck to flag someone down.

From booking to departure we were very well cared for. Room was really comfortable and well presented. Breakfast was a comprehensive offer - I couldn't resist he full English which was very high quality. Evening meals were slightly mixed. Belly pork with Chorizo jam was exceptional, shoulder of lamb was superb. Asparagus was delicious, as was he sprouting broccoli. However, the burger was bland and actually pretty awful. Nothing other that a poor burger and a cup of chips. No salad, no coleslaw, no onion rings, no dressings. Tasteless. Fish and chips was - well - fish and chips. It seems that they do fine food very well, but 'bar food' has minimal thought or effort spent on it.

Bedroom was in the main building, reduced height ceiling and a free standing bath in the bedroom (who wants that?). Separate fairly small shower but with a fixed head. The window blinds were dirty. The restaurant service was excellent but the reception service left something to be desired

Excellent food and excellent service we were a party of 13 for my 60th birthday and the staff couldn’t do more for us. I would like to thank Tom the chef Alex the agency chef Dan Sawyer also the chef Lee at the bar couldn’t do enough for us Tom front of house was excellent Lindsey front of house was also very helpful and so was Lane front of house

Amazing restaurant! We visited as a small group celebrating a friends hen do and the staff couldn't do more for us.The food was incredible, drinks were fantastic, staff were attentive, friendly and all round amazing! We had a nice table set aside in a small corner of the restaurant set with fresh flowers and candles. There was no rush for food, plenty of time to enjoy or evening, drinks, food and coffee.Staff couldn't have done more for us and I would recommend anybody in the area visit. The food is very reasonably priced and amazing!Thank you for a great evening!

We had a wonderful stay! We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and dinners, a comfortable room and appreciated the hotel being very dog friendly.Improvements: we felt everything was fairly priced, except for £16.50 for a double G&T. Also a fridge in the room would have been convenient (and I imagine required for dog owners that feed their dogs raw foods)Thank you for a lovely weekend, we would certainly return again for a weekend getaway by the coast!

Lovely old pub in a good location. Staff very pleasant. Dinner menu limited if staying more than one night and a bit pricey. Breakfast good.

Our visit for lunch was very disappointing. The Parlour area was cold without a fire. The sirloin steak (£26) was inedible as was the replacement king oyster mushroom.(£17.50)The toilets were small, scruffy and dirty. This place needs a great deal of improvement, although the staff were very pleasant.

After a brisk walk along Dunwich beach had a well earned drink at the Crown. Bar person very friendly and chatted with us between serving other guests. We only popped in for a drink but noticed the restaurant was fully booked and what we saw being taken to the tables looked very nice. Would recommend if you want to eat especially Fri/Sat/Sun to pre-book.
