Charnallies Restaurant in Tendring

The food I ate at this restaurant today is the worst plate of food I have ever eaten. Not worst meal in a restaurant, the worst meal fullstop. To think that "professional chefs" made this food is mind-blowing.Me and my wife visited with our family for lunch on her birthday so we're hoping for a nice meal,The wait staff were all friendly and no issues with service but the food, could barely be classified as foodMy wife has a starter of rubbery defrosted under a cold tap prawns with some ketchup and mayo on top and my chicken strips were a cheap breaded chicken schnitzel chopped into bits.the meatball calzone can only be described at a hate crime on food.The dough was burnt black and the chef had dumped a tin of chopped tomatoes on top to try and hide it, inside the "beef meatballs" were actually made of pork were chewy gristly and vile, and the "Ragu sauce" was literally a tin of chopped tomatoes.My wife's burger was the dryest thing I've ever seen still not sure they didn't just grill an old boot.I didn't eat it and let the staff know in a respectful friendly way that the standard was awful but the manager never came to see us to apologize. They took £6 off the final bill, but frankly it felt more of an insult. paying 46 pound for 2 drinks and some indeterminate microwaved matter is a joke would have at least taken the cost of the mains off the billMy wife has also had an upset stomach all night since which she suspects is due to the prawns. Large comfortable American style restaurant. Food okay, licensed. Good Kids menu. Well behaved dogs allowed in bar area. Close to Clacton Pier, amusements, and town centre shops. Outside covered seating. No parking outside.

My son and I eat here a lot and every time the food and service has been spot on. Nothing is ever too much for the amazing staff - the interaction with them and my little one is amazing and he absolutely loves it! We’ve also been to their children events - most lately Meet Santa last Christmas; the gift he was hand given by Santa was perfect for his age and really amazing considering his ticket was only £10 and that included a huge breakfast! Charnallies will always be our number one choice when going out for food.

Great food and happy smiling staff made for a wonderful lunch. Tables were nice and clean with no stickiness or stains etc. Really nice place to eat. Also great place for families, as very kid friendly. They even had a few tables set up for a large party with balloons 😃😄

Had a fantastic evening on Friday night. Great food and cocktails, Hayley our host was great and was always checking everything was ok. If she's bit the manager she should be! Will definitely be going back again 👍🍹

Had an excellent meal here after seeing the Christmas Show at the West Cliff Theatre, which they support to the extent of giving you a 20% discount on your food after the performance. Plenty of room so social distancing not a problem. Very friendly staff and tasty food. Music volume could be turned down a bit.

Had read the reviews of this place, before we came to Clacton on sea. We were not dissapointed. The place has a lovely atmosphere, clean and tidy. We had a window seat and watched the arcardes opposite. The food was tasty and freshly Cooked. Food was quick and efficient and lots of choice.

Went here Sunday for the 1st time with visiting friends and sat outside ( I've lived here a few years not sure why I've waited so long to visit) We had a dog with us and was welcomed and was bought a bowl of water without us asking for any. Quick and very friendly service. All meals were excellent, Pizza and 2 pasta meals. Cocktails were a bargain and top notch 👍 Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you

Fantastic meals, fresh, tasty 100% worth waiting for. Long island ice tea, spitfire and blackcurrant soda.... Ribs and chicken. Hawaiian Chicken and a fabulous lamb shank with fresh veg and the best mash in Essex.

Staff were super friendly! Good prices and food was really nice! The waitresses even offered our dog a sausage and he loved it! Would recommend
