A lovely, friendly little place. Just dropped in New Year's Eve for a couple with my girlfriend, and really enjoyed it - didn't want to leave.

Stayed here for 2 nights lovely very old building. Room was very clean and tidy. A lovely garden to sit and have a drink or lunch/dinner. We decided to book a table for dinner..unfortunately very disappointed. We ordered medium/rare steak mine was raw and full of fat and grizzle, it went back almost as I received it. I was offered free desert which was lovely. I would go back, but not have a meal.

Sunday Roast, what an experience this is what Sunday's were made for. Sirloin of roast beef cooked perfectly (only if you like your beef rare), roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, broclie, Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese in its own little dish, not forgetting the gravy. Service was great with two large parties and us arriving ad-hoc we we still treated brilliantly. The vegetarian option was equally as good with a beetroot and sweetpotatoe tart with all the vegetables perfectly cooked and great value. Lovely traditional public house with good beer excellent food and service despite being busy. Desserts were very good too.

Visited the pub/restuarant for lunch and had an excellent home made fish pie dish with seasonal vegetables for £12. Noted some very good value filled bap options being eaten by others. Pleasant atmosphere and great value. Close to half penny pier and ferry to Felixstowe.

3rd visit to Samuel Pepys and once again not disappointed.Had the sirloin steak which was cooked exactly how I wanted it,followed by a generous helping of stick toffee pudding.Prices are fair for the quality and quantity, and the service was excellent, and friendly.Looking forward to my next visit

We had my mums wake yesterday and this crew of beautiful people came and set up a wonderful tea buffet. All on vintage crockery and cake stands. It was their first time doing this outside and they were superb. They were all very kind and looked after all our needs. Could not fault one thing. Fantastic staff and wonderful food.Thankyou to all of you for making such a difficult day a beautiful day.Wonderful. Would recommend to everyone xxKind regards. Lorraine Mcpherson.
