The Hat & the Mouse in Tendring

I visited to see my elderly father but was disappointed in the service provided. Squashed in and patronised with no understanding of my 85 year old father's mobility and no toilet facilities. We were told to use the public toilets some distance away. I would not have booked if this was known. Food mediocre and expensive. Not worth the 90 min train journey.

Had a fabulous takeaway lunch from here today. Five mains and five desserts, carefully packaged so they arrived at home in great condition. Beautiful food, carefully and lovingly prepared. Generous portions, great value for money. Frinton, you have a little gem on your doorstep, please give it your business to ensure it's future.

Never been in before. We were both surprised, food was beautiful. Wife had sea bass, i had resotto, both were very nice. Staff pleasent and a steady stream of custom while we were there. We both said we will be going back in the not to distant future. 10 out of 10

My parents rave about this place, so I went with them today. Food is amazingly good! Chef is seriously skilled & passionate about his food; he even runs classes to teach other budding chefs. Even the desserts were hand made and utterly delicious. If I had another stomach i would order again. Great friendly service from the ladies employed there. Premises are small but quaint and prices were very reasonable for the quality and flavour of the dishes served up. I will be visiting again as soon as I can!

Didn't have time to take a photo of my food because I gobbled it up so quickly! It was absolutely delicious! Generous portions, presented professionally. Everything is made with such passion. Always love a visit to The Hat & the Mouse! :)

Have been to the hat and mouse several times! service and food is always exceptional. Jasmine and Johnathan always go above and beyond to accommodate and will always provide exceptional service. food is AMA.zing!!! Beautiful cutlery, crockery. Love visiting!

I just love going to the Hat and The Mouse. Fantastic food. Today I went on my second Teaching Day. Absolutely brilliant. They make you feel so welcome. A big Thank You from us 😬 🐭

Food over priced and badly cooked, the Seabass was dry and over cooked, the quiche was soggy and smothered in oil and the bread was dry. The staff were rude, the bill was not itemised and they couldn’t wait to clear up and close. We will definitely not be going again.

Been here twice once with mum and then with my daughter, they and I thought the food was excellent and service very good indeed. The chef takes great pride and it shows in the flavours and presentation. Try there if and when they are open.
