Churchill's Fish and Chips in Uttlesford

Lesson learnt! I usually stop at Elsenham Fish Bar on my way home from work. I'm an early Friday evening customer.Today as parking looked tight in Elsenham I decided to go home to Stansted and get fish and chips from Churchills. Big mistake!2 pieces of fish in heater, that turned out to be dry and not freshly cooked, chips had that 'be sitting in pan' taste and both were cold!£6.99 in the bin and a drive back to Elsenham.Very disappointed in my local chippy.

Very disappointed. Ordered online via company card and requested a VAT receipt as required for putting through on expenses. On collection was told they don’t do them and the printed one should be sufficient!!! The one stapled to the bag was not sufficient as there wasn’t even the price on there let alone a VAT number. Seriously, what the hell? Will be coming in at lunch time today to get this sorted before travelling home. So not impressed, and the food wasn’t overly great either.

Best fish and chip shop in Essex! Burgers are delicious and the service is always quick and efficient. Won't go anywhere else!

Prices go up portions get smaller£2.50 for small chips maybe 20?Unfortunately this has happened multiple times!

Nice fish and chips fresh and good portions can get v busy Fridays I recommend this place.Update had scampi and chips from here tonight nice scampi but chips were undercooked and soggy the shop was not busy either so disappointing and they have lost a star

Struggled over 3 or 4 stars.. if only there was a 3 1/2 option. Food tastes great, you certainly can't fault that! Chips were superb, sausages are well cooked and the battered ones are not crunchy and like eating chipboard like some I have had from other places. Highly recommend the food. The only downside can be the sizes of the portions, a little lacking. The only other thing could be the price. Either make the portions a little bigger, or lower the price a touch.Staff are friendly enough, always crazy busy, expect a wait... once you eat the food, you can certainly understand why it's so busy. We were missing a portion of food once, but we ordered for some many it was easy to all chuck in a bit of each to form a portion big enough. Nobody wanted to drive back and explain and then wait etc... this never puts me off going back though.

Awful. Service is incredibly slow and the food wasn’t worth the wait. Expensive for the small portions, over-cooked chips and even with salt and vinegar the food was incredibly bland. It’s worth the trip to Stortford to avoid.

Ordering over the phone or online is pretty easy and seamless, the menu is varied and they do reasonable lunch offers. However, after a number of visits and whilst the food taste is very good (but not exceptional), we’re always disappointed when we arrive home and open the box to such average portion sizes (despite ordering the large options) and think “is that it?”. After an enjoyable bite, you’re left unsatisfied and wanting more, and also feel aggrieved for how much you’ve paid. Will continue to go periodically out of convenience only. Portion size increases would be greatly appreciated please!

Will go again but had better. Not great value for money. Small portions. Cant really complain, it's just not as good as my regular fish and chip shop I'm used to
