Great vibe, service and food. Quick service and very helpful friendly staff. Would go again!

We were partaking in a nighttime 6.5 mile trail run with friends and other fellow runners organised by Kevin and Howard of 'Essex Trail Events'. The start and finish were here at the Horse and Groom.They had prepared a "Sausage and Mash" dinner for all the runners afterwards. The Wherry was lovely and well-earnt I must say.Great food, and, most of all, very friendly and welcoming. Thank-you.We definitely want to return here for a lunchtime or evening meal.

We had a really nice lunch for my father’s 80th birthday. The service and food were both excellent - the young waiter was very professional and friendly. Thank you!

Lovely place, decor lovely and cosy. With wood burning fires. Dinner good, but a little on the cold side, hence the 4 stars.... Staff friendly and helpful, if a little young. Would go again.

Wow wow wow! I have never been disappointed with this pub, that has consistently served me the most delicious food over the past few years with the loveliest owners! I used to thoroughly enjoy their cheese and bacon burger which is one of the best around in Essex easily, as is their lasagne. Their roast dinner is amazing but since I’ve transitioned to Veggie, their Vegan food has proved to die for! Their vegan cheeseburger is nothing short of unreal and their vegan Jambalaya was incredible- full of flavour. Can’t recommend highly enough. We always save room for desserts as the cheesecakes are the most delicious in this area, out of this world tastes! As is the rest of their extensively varied menu. Even with the pressure of high amounts of catering to deliver for their Mamma Mia movie screening night, the Horse and Groom Team went above and beyond with their service, presenting us with outstanding food quality. All of that is without getting me started on their friendly team and homely countryside setting that’s beautifully furnished with an extensive outdoor area that faces the village’s pretty church aswell as their characteristic interior beams . Can’t wait to see you guys again real soon!

Today we took a trip to Finchingfield and booked in to the Horse and Groom for lunch...We had a really warm greeting my Karen, who showed us to our table...This beautiful pub is as picturesque inside as it is outside... warm and inviting!We ordered mussels and chicken strips as a starter followed by fish and chips each! Oh my, you will not be disappointed...fresh local ingredients and cooked perfectly! Value for money and really big portions that you will not go hungry...A wonderful find and one we will be revisiting soon... 5⭐

A lovely traditional English pub with super friendly Publicans.( not forgetting the zealous helping hand ,Jack) Food was amazing ,from traditional roast to Thai curry.. If your on a drive out in the countryside don't miss this little gem.

Excellent Afternoon tea, we have had Afternoon tea twice now from The Horse and Groom. Was delicious, mix of Sandwiches, lovely cakes and Scones. Jam cream and Tea pig Tea bag. To make your own pot of tea at home.

I'm not sure where to start my review so I will begin with the hospitality. I contacted the pub regarding a reservation and mentioned that I currently have some medical requirements that limit my food options. The owner went above and beyond to make sure they had everything I would be able to eat prior to us travelling over.Once we arrived we were met with a beautiful pub and equally inviting and friendly hosts. Again, they went above and beyond to make sure everything ordered was within my allowance.The food was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly.Not only would I recommend this pub I will definitely be frequenting it again.
