Had to wait 35 mins for coffee and tea, asked for sugar that never came. Had a table booked but after the couple next to us had been waiting 45 mins for their food and in came out cold. The manager never came he just sent one if his staff and to be honest they did not seem that bothered. So table booking got cancelled, won't be going back soon.

Terrible service. Waited half an hour to even be served while others who cam win later were served before. Twice had to approach the waiter who only came because the table who came in after told him to serve us first.Waited another half hour - not even a sign of the drinks. Promise of 'they are coming' never materialised. No sign of food. Had to walk out. A total waste of time on a day out with friends when we could have been exploring Saffron Walden.Found a lovely restaurant on square instead

The first time visiting this bistro and the first time to Saffron Walden. Beautiful surroundings, terrible customer service. Front of house is your everything. Expect nothing more than rude. Ordered some drinks and some olives. Was abruptly told they were not serving food. Not even olives? I asked. To the reply: we are not serving food.Olives take less than 3 minutes to pop in a dish. Less than pouring a pint of beer. Totally didn’t get why. Apparently, we needed to book a table to order olives.Left to visit another lovely bistro. Amazing customer service, drinks and nibbles. Perfect for a lazy Easter Saturday. Sorry you need to do better!

Very friendly and helpful staff! Two young waitresses brought in the cake and sung along beautifully to Happy Birthday for our Mum's 71st.Thank you for helping to make our party special.

overall the food there is classically British and is nice, they offer accommodation for people looking to stay the night and they have a steady list of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. the staff are also welcoming.

Fantastic menu - best pub food in Saffron Walden that I've found - good selection of real ales and great service. Go-to venue for fish dishes. Highly recommend!

·

Nice place to grab a bite with your loved ones. The menu can be a bit misleading, foods not explained in depth - mom ordered tomato orzo expecting a tomato and, although she ended up enjoying the orzo, it was not what she expected (not everyone would know what orzo means - please amend the menu!)Otherwise excelent service and tasty food.

Pretty very well located pub. They managed to fit us very last minute even though we were at the very back next to the toilets. Staff were very pleasant and even the 2 new girls they had were handling the busy Sunday very well. The food though was not great. Potatoes were stale in the roast, fish was completely bland and the vegan nut roast was swimming in the gravy. Also no vegan choice on desert or sides.

Service incredibly slow, waited 15 minutes to give drinks order then another 20 minutes to get them. Food mediocre. Asked for a dessert menu and never received it. Warm drinks in dirty glasses. Will not be coming back.

Beautiful old pub with so much character and superb food, excellent service and real charm, a singer at the electric organ was a real treat. I visited today for a late lunch and had the most flavoursome roast beef, it was wonderful. Dog friendly and really lovely staff who deserve praise for bespoke service skills. First time in Saffron Walden and so impressed I will be back.
