The Four Ashes Takeley Bishops Stortford in Uttlesford

The guys and punters at the Four Ashes pub here saved my bacon! The Stanwell Hotel left me stranded when I booked a room and magically it had been cancelled with no warning! It was 11.30pm. A woman (me) dropped at the door of the house (hotel) by a £20 taxi ride (3 mins away) by fleet Taxis - didn’t wait around - the hotel manager was sleepy, deluded and felt very untrustworthy, so I went to the pub for solace and they were So willing to help - friendly, welcoming and a glass of wine which was very much in need! Thanks To Andy and the bar lady for the drink / taxi / hugs and advice - sorry don’t remember her name). Very much appreciated and I made it to Italy so thanks! : ) xxx

Small family pub and a good surprise in terms of food.

Great little pub but 45 mins wait for a sandwich was a bit too much on the plus side staff are great always a friendly face

The pizza the young girl made me was 5⭐ nice friendly punters aswell

It had changed quite a lot since I last saw it years ago nice and tidy and comfortable,lady behind the bar was very helpful even though she had a bad hand from an accident enjoyed my time there.

Quite a long wait for meal but we'll worth the wait. Had steak and ale pie with vegs and could not fault it. Plenty of meat and really well cooked vegetables. Pleasant surroundings and would go again if in area.

This family run pub is a Godsend! Less than 10mins by bus to the airport. We arrived at lunch time Saturday to get a warm welcome. The food was superb, homemade lasagne was a dream. Spacious and friendly, definitely better than the airport (lack of) facilities. Marvellous!

Stopped at the four ashes by chance because the hotel we were staying at didn't have a restaurant open. Ended up having a great evening, the owners were so welcoming, the drinks were great value and they even served fresh pizza for us at 10pm which was really tasty. Also very friendly big yellow dog thumbs up

Very good atmosphere! Good quality pub. I had a cottage pie. Maybe I was too hungry but the portion size was normal, not generous as some commented. The pie was well made, but the "root veg mash" was a little plain. Carrot and warm cabbage. Overall 4/5 a healthy pub meal. The prices here are very high. Beer 4£. But the bartender lady was very very nice, I loved her personality!

Very nice pub with lovely people and staff! Tasty beer in a beautiful atmosphere inside and outside on terrace.Absolutely worth a visit - recommended to go there.We’ll come back one day!
