The Saracens Head Restaurant and Bar in Uttlesford

Restaurant review, rather than hotel.Interesting menu haddock goujons and chips, chicken pate, burgers and pastaDish was good, the pate great. Generous and tasty pasta with Mediterranean vegetables.

Excellent "Mothers Day".Service and food could not be faulted in anyway. The young lady who looked after us ( unfortunately we do not have her name) was very attentive. Time 13 30 upstairs dining room booked by Katie.

Good size, well laid out clean room. Nicely furnished. Hot water took forever to arrive.Restaurant was extremely busy so book in advance if you plan on eating. There was a small mistake with the food but was well managed. Two single gin and tonics nearly £17 which seems excessive.No early breakfast at the weekend which was a bit of a let down as needed to be at the airport for 8am.

The room with en suite, bed etc were excellent but there were some issues for me. For one thing I had no idea until I got there that the room was not in the main building but a seperate annexe so it's a good job it wasn't raining as I didn't have a coat. I was also staying on my own. My room had parking spaces directly in front of it with people coming and going. There was a strange small window in the door with a board behind it but a gap all the way round where anyone could see into the room. The tap in the bathroom had a sign saying it was not for drinking so I would have expected a bottle of water to be supplied. On waking I couldn't open the curtains to let natural light in because there were no net curtains and everyone coming and going outside could see directly in. I wasn't happy as I felt I had no privacy. The breakfast was ok.

Food was really lovely, very large portions, too much for me. Staff were especially great, couldn't have been more helpful. When booking we were not told restaurant closes at 3pm so having a 2pm sitting, we went to order dessert about 3.15pm. One chap then shortened his break to ensure we were served anyway - we didn't want him to do this, we were truly extremely thankful for such a lovely gesture, thank you all so very very much.

Stayed for 1 night. Read recent reviews from Dec and Jan and were a little worried. Turns out our concerns were unfounded. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, a lovely room in the main building facing the High Street. The room was appropriately decorated for the age of the building, all exposed beams, wonky walls, creaky floorboards and a roll-topped bath! The room and bathroom were clean with comfortable sofa, 2 large flat screen tvs, king-size wooden sleigh bed with surprisingly comfy mattress. The staff that we interacted with were all polite, friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The only fault we found was that the shower head needed a serious descaling.

We visited the Saracens for food on a Sunday and it was hands down the worst food and service I have ever had. I ordered a glass of wine which came in a very dirty glass (lipstick around the rim) we then waited at least 20 mins for a fresh glass to arrive, may I point out the restaurant was not busy so I have no idea what took so long. I then ordered a veggie burger and my partner ordered a Sunday roast.When my lunch arrived I asked for some condiments, these took so long to arrive my lunch was cold and half eaten by time the waitress brought them, which she was huffing and puffing about, making it seem like and inconvenience.My partners Sunday lunch came a green vegetarian “gravy” this was not a gravy by any stretch of the imagination, it resembled more of a thick mushy pea consistency which was unpourable meaning the dinner was very dry.The service, food and experience as a whole was very poor and needless to say we will not be returning nor recommending this to anyone. Very disappointing.

Nice place to go for a drink or coffee. You can have nibbles or a meal at lunch times, but ordering coffee was quite hard work slow in getting your service. Coffee warm and no sandwiches through January.

Passing through Dunmow and decided to stop for lunch. From the outside on a winters day the place doesn't inspire. However, once inside the place has an open modern feel while still retaining some historic features. Pleasant welcome on arrival and quickly seated. Pleasant waitress served us quickly. The food was well presented and a cut above the average pub grub. Wild boar and apple sausages with a spring onion mash and a rich grsvy went down well with my companions. The Dirty Burger that I chose was delicious and was very filling. While not cheap the meal was good value for money. Cheaper options are available on the bar menu. All in all a good place to visit on a damp day.

Easy check in, although could not get parked in there facility, very small, public car park just outside so no problem. Very nice room, clean and spacious, plenty of tea and coffee, shower gel, very comfy bed. Only negative was that my room, No: 2, had an adjoining door to the next room, so could hear everything, including a blokes coughing fit first thing Sunday morning. Attempted Breakfast at 9:30, but there was a small queue to be seated in a very small dining area, it felt to claustrophobic for me, so decided to give it a miss. Nice place to stay and friendly staff, but disappointed with the adjoining room and crowded Breakfast facilities, still good value for money.
