Absolutely gorgeous food. Service was 10/10. I'm definitely going again (when I can get a reservation!)

We had a lovely evening here last night. Simple food beautifully cooked, but very tasty. A limited menu which is no bad thing as you know it is all fresh produce. The only thing l would say is that we could have done with a extra side dish or two of vegetables as we just had new potatoes with our main course. The starters and desserts were delicious.

What a find!! We booked one night but it was so good that we booked the following night. The food was excellent and the service exemplary. Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. Thanks Lydia for a great stay.

Absolutely amazing! We stayed the night my 6 month baby and 8 year old! What a stunning room, everything thought of my daughter was just so so excited! The location is simply blissful for a night away, the staff truly amazing! We went for the early sitting and were really looked after the table was set to fit the buggy, free champagne waiting at the table! The menu so cleverly structured a treat a delight covering a wide variety! The home made scotch egg was actually the best I have ever tried (I have them where ever they are served!) the haddock omelette my hubby had him saying “oh wow, oh wow” through out! Mike Binnington truly is a chef genius-one of the finest chefs in Essex! We went back to the room for desserts to be surprised by an immaculate turn down with a basket full of treats, a beautiful note saying good night and informing us of the warm Horlicks and homemade biscuits! The morning again was filled with surprises amazing beautiful breakfast the finest quality, attention to detail considering everything! Home made bread, butter, croissants, the finest locally sourced sausages, bacon the stay was truly magical!

Amazing restaurant. Went for my birthday on a Wednesday night as they do a £30 set menu. Excellent selection, the scorch egg in particular was out of this world. Small but clearly well sourced selection of very reasonably priced wines. I struggled to pick and the waitress offered a chance to try those offered by the glass and settled on the malbec which complimented our steaks perfectly. Had steak at supplement, but was incredible we even asked how they cooked it as tasted like no other we had had. Quite and small place, easy and cheap taxi ride from chelmsford

The food, service and atmosphere are all phenomenal at The Windmill. We had a really relaxing evening with a divine three course dinner. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the team there were simply flawless. Will definitely be visiting again soon

The food. Oh the food - very good taste and quality. Best food I’ve had for a very very long time and I eat out regularly. Very friendly staff and lovely little place. I’d say one my favourite place to eat out now. Highly recommended!Only one other comment would be tables can be quite close together but it’s a small place with only about 7 tables anyway so this can’t be helped.

Great food lovely location, “Party of 16 of us ate at The Windmill on 3rd June- a birthday celebration. The food and service were excellent. A varied and delicious menu, all beautifully presented in a very pleasant dining room. Really pretty and relaxing gardens to the rear, to enjoy a drink. All of us were very impressed and all said we will definitely be making a return visit. Thank you to the chef and staff for a most enjoyable afternoon.

Under new ownership and the food is beautiful we went for the opening night and can't recommend it enough. It is a very small but lovely restaurant. My other half could have cut his steak with a spoon it was so tender. He also had the chocolate fondant pudding and whilst this is cooked to order the extra few minutes you had to wait for it be done were well worth it. The lobster starter was delicious and if you don't have a sweet tooth the cheese board was just lovely. All the staff are equally as good as the food. If it's this good on opening night I have high hopes of how good it will get.
