Breakfast was a shambles. When we arrived at 9.30 there were no plates, cutlery, glasses or mugs. Food was okay. Staff were abrasive at best but may have been understaffed. Everything was so poorly organised and for a £60 bill my friends had to eat with their hands. Would not reccomend.

As the only two in the restaurant we were taken to a dirty sticky table. We ordered 2 prawn cocktail, nachos and a burger. It then starts. The first thing they bring is the main, (the burger) nothing else. The burger was okay the chips were a bit raw. They forgot the starters, and one of the main meals. We then explained we wanted starters before the main, so they took the burger and brought starters. The prawn cocktail starter partially arrived, without the bread (not sure what they did with that), no plates just literally a glass. Didnt bother to ask where the rest of the starter was as we could see getting anything was a result at this point.Next Mains. Just one main arrived, they had forgotten we had ordered two mains, loaded beef nachos and a burger. We asked for the other main and they went to go start making it while leaving the other main on the table, they the brought us a different main from what was ordered. We gave up on that and sent back the wrong main and settled for just one of us eating. As the only people in the restaurant with 6 staff that amount of wrong was mental. We paid and left. One of us had managed to get food and that seemed to look good to the restaurant. No apology or mention of all the mistakes from them at all.Definitely not something we would ever repeat.

Stayed at the premier inn next door over the weekend(10th-12thJune 2022) and used The Rising Sun a lot of the time during our stay. Firstly, we used the restaurant for breakfast both mornings as it has a good deal with the Premier Inn. We chose to drink at the Rising Sun on the Saturday night and it couldn’t have been a better choice! Drinks and snacks at the bar were reasonably priced and the customer service we received, especially from bar manager Catherine, was great. Catherine went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome, from remembering our drink orders to insisting on taking over cleaning up the mess we made and the drinks I spilled! After working till late at night, Catherine was working the following morning when we went down for breakfast and was still working just as hard, with a smile still on her face. Would definitely book the same premier inn again if I came back to Watford, just for the Rising Sun! (apologies if I’ve spelled Catherine the wrong way!!)

Totally unprepareat breakfast time on 2 consecutive days. Lack of orange juice, coffee machine seemed to be permanently empty, no cutlery, dirty tables, lack of bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, however the food when it was available was lovely.

The sun has set on this Brewers Fayre. We visited well before lockdown and enjoyed a midweek meal, we knew there were some issues due to covid/staffing etc so phoned in advance. We were told what was missing on the menu but thought we would still take a chance (wish we hadn't). On entering the first thing the manager told us was there would be a 45 mins wait for food, fair enough, we have waited longer before. However lot's of things missing on the menu, poor communication between table staff and kitchen staff, burnt veg sausages, starters did not arrive, food that did arrive was cold. The only thing that helped was our waiter was very polite and apologetic (but I suspect that's because he has had lots pf practice), also told us they were struggling to recruit with some staff having joined the nearby Harvester. In the end the manager acknowledged the issues were unacceptable and refunded the cost of the food. Been to lots of Brewers Fayres and always great value with good pub grub, having worked in hospitality and the restaurant sector it doesn't take a lot to get the basics right, but unfortunately for this Fayre the sun has already set.

Extremely dirty. No hygiene at all. I wonder why the restaurant is closed. It is a must that health and safety and local environment and local council do a check in the kitchen . Feel sad for people who are not aware.

Met a work colleague here on a weekday evening for a beer and a bite to eat. The atmosphere was good for a week day and the staff were friendly. The food was decidedly average but okay for an unfussy person. There was a long list of things they didn't have. So long in fact it may have been easier to produce a shorter menu whilst supplies were difficult to get! All in all an enjoyable evening but I probably wouldn't choose to go there for a date night meal.

I'll start with the positive, the waiting staff were very polite and courteous. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing about our experience here. Now, for the negatives....Considering the restaurant was quite empty, the staff chose to sit us close to another table where 2 of the 4 members of a family were coughing repeatedly. Had they not have been finishing their desserts, we would have moved ourselves. There were a whole list of items not available on the evening we ate here, which kept getting longer as the evening (for example - only once my curry had been brought out to me, did they tell me that they had run out of mango chutney). The food was of poor quality. I had the curry and my husband had the mixed grill. Now don't get me wrong, we were not expecting Michelin standard food, but the poppadom I was given was soggy, the naan bread was rock hard and they had run out of mango chutney. My husband's steak had been so over cooked it thudded when you tapped it with cutlery and there were hardly any chips. It was clear that there was some issue in the kitchen as we were sat at our table for over an hour before we received our main courses.Needless to say that we did not opt to stay for dessert or another drink.Would not eat here again and would not recommend.
