Under new management (from April 2022). Whole pub refurbishment and quite nicely done. Staff were friendly. Menu completely changed. Had a couple of meals so far and OK. A little slow on serving up, but not disastrous.

·

Lovely place, newly refurbished so still very sparkling and clean. Food was what I would expect from a gastro pub, fairly standard, though good to see some attention has been given to offering Vegan and Vegetarian options, also dietary requirements taken into account. Yes I would definitely eat here again

Great food and excellent service much improved since the refurbishment getting a very popular place looking forward to the summer

Tasteful refurbishment, formulaic Brake Brothers food. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Menu is trying too hard and also not much options. Wording on the menu is misleading. I would also expect table service not going to the bar to order considering the prices on the menu. Not sure it's value for money. Pub it lovely for a drink in the garden but food wise took too long (almost 1 hour wait for food). Lots of teething issues I'm sure since the take over but definitely not enough choice and change compared to other pub/restaurants around the area.

Very nice refurbishment. Beer was very good. The usual high end lagers available, as well as a few pale ales. All of our party of four said their food was very nice. Staff helpfull and polite. We will be going back I'm sure.

Had high hopes for the new chequers… we usually try roasts from different pubs and this opened up next door so couldn’t wait to try.Don’t get me wrong the new refurbishment looks lovely and I would go for drinks as the garden looks nice… I understand it’s new and may have teething problems but my roast was probably one of the worst I’ve had :(We had pork but it was just a very hard and dry pork chop, potatoes were soft on the outside but actually hard on the inside and the trimmings weren’t that of a roast that is costing nearly £20!We were offered another meat but declined. Too expensive for what we had.

·

Lovely meal, as usual, albeit the last Pie Wednesday before Marion and Nick shut up shop. They will be greatly missed and Wednesday's won't be the same once you close those doors for the last time. Good luck in your new ventures.

·

Lovely relaxed pub. Lovely food and a good selection of drinks available at very reasonable prices. The pub is well presented and is always clean and tidy. Friendly helpful staff at hand. Nice back garden with seating area back and front. You wouldn't think this pub is on the main road as the atmosphere is chilled. The pub also has a mini "zoo"!!!

Amazing as always. Best pies in the county. We really enjoyed the wee zoo as well. Very family friendly and the food is just too die for. I recommend it to every one. Great service and good prices. We keep going for years and we'll be going for many more
