We went to the Chieftan for the Queens Jubilee. Meant to stay for the afternoon. We ended up staying until the end. What a lovely pub. Great atmosphere staff were lovely. Manager couldn’t have been more helpful. Had live music. Stalls selling delightful cakes, books, Jewellery, hand crafted cards. Two lovely young ladies played live music outside, went in to have some food, food is great, then a DJ in the evening. What a lovely day. Thank you everyone, we’ll be back.

Bright and welcoming pub, very spacious, clean and nicely decorated, freindly and helpful staff, plenty of drink choices, some really good value for money meals as well, 2 for price of 1, outside seating area as well, nice food, TV for sport ect, relaxing atmosphere.

I ate here twice this weekend.Fri night was terrible (toad in the hole) everything was overdone and gravy was minimal and congealed.Sat night much better (burger)So difficult to provide an accurate review as it seemed to be hit and miss

Interesting one for us as we used to go often to the Chieftan before it changed hands; basically - very similar except we missed the friendly staff we knew and the portions were just about sufficient. The dessert portion (Lemon Meringue) was very small. We hope the pub does well.

Very friendly staff. Popped in for a quick bit of lunch. Didn't know the area so found it via Google. Despite being a bit short staffed our burgers were ready in no time. Cost was more or less half what we would have paid in our local area. Unfortunately I'd have preferred to have paid a bit more for high quality burger/bun. It wasn't bad really and for the price it was ok. Seemed popular with the locals.

I found myself here alone and in need of a meal. I ordered at the bar, where the member of staff that served me was enthusiastic, friendly, respectful and very helpful. The food arrived after not to long a wait. The steak was cooked beautifully and had a really good char-grilled flavour. The large public bar is broken up by floor to ceiling bookshelves full of old hardbacks, creating a calm and interesting ambiance that I found rather pleasant. All in all, a 4* experience. The only reason I withhold the 5th * is that I generally prefer restaurants to pubs and the birthday party at the next table was a bit loud. Regardless of that, Chieftain... I will be back!

Walking around Welwyn Garden City it seems that the pubs are built in a similar pattern, so there's very little I can say about the sense of place here. The service was friendly and the beer acceptable, but the food was distinctly unremarkable. A small portion of chilli with rice arrived within seconds of placing the order - the rice still held the shape of the plastic bag in which it had been stored and a tiny paper cup of creme fraiche was stuck into the chilli. I would have expected more of it, or for it to be cheaper, notwithstanding the 241 deal that was available. Just make the portions cheaper and hope that people come in pairs.
