Really lovely unpretentious pub.Dog friendly.Really delicious Sunday roast.Gardens are huge, with large play area and fantastic views and countryside all around.

Found this little gem in the Good Pub Guide and rightly so! They had a great selection of real ales, including a well-kept Tring breweries Sidepocket, so that was me sorted. We had lunch outside, as it was still quite mild. The vegetarian Chilli was excellent. The group I was with had burgers and sandwiches and everyone was happy with their meals. Had a lovely walk after and will return to sample the Sunday roast!

Very disappointing.Walked in on a quiet Saturday afternoon looking forward to some decent pub food.No-one in sight, but unbelievably loud music. Stayed for a minute and then decided that there must be more convivial country pubs in the immediate vicinity. Never saw a member of staff!

Nice pub, good selection of ales and the chicken burger was great, Ollie did well after we finished our bike race and were hungry.Outside space and also seating inside.

Quirky village pub. Dogs allowed makes it a ideal location to chill with good beer and food

Great food and very friendly service and extremely dog friendly, we had the mixed roast, lots of meat!

It's in a nice location, and quite a nice pub. We had booked a table for 6, and I found it a bit odd that we weren't given menus, they had one board with a menu on that was handed out to each table (the same board). The food was nice, everyone enjoyed their meals and it is reasonably priced as well. My only complaint would be the toilets. The smell of urine as soon as you open the door to go into the toilet area was horrendous, and the toilets even worse. Could definitely do with a refurb in the toilet area!

This lovely old fashioned pub in the middle of a classic British countryside. Is a great pub to visit if you are looking for a drink. I won't recommend the food it's nice but very expensive for what it is. They don't really cater for vegetarians, as they didn't have anything on the main menu. We had to ask and it was only a mushroom dish.

A welcome stop on a long walk on a hot day. A real country pub overlooking some glorious countryside. Friendly staff and beer again reasonable prices.

Fabulous traditional pub, run by family with great food at a great price.I went there with some friends on a Sunday lunch, and although we were among the first there, within half an hour the place had filled up. The menu has a good selection for what I would class as the top end for pub food, so there is something for everyone. It’s always a good sign that you’ve already chosen your dessert from the board before you sit down to choose your main! There were plenty of helpful and friendly staff, so ordering and service were swift and dispatched with a smile. This place might be halfway between the back of beyond and the middle of nowhere, but the seclusion adds to the charm, and the buoyant vibe and happy faces pay testament to a great traditionally styled pub where the owners take an obvious and genuine attention to service and atmosphere.A bit of advice: if you are going there for Sunday lunch, stop eating on Wednesday…you may be able to fit all the courses in then. I have to give The Candlestick 5 stars because it ticked all the boxes and I will be coming back :-)Top tip: Sunday lunchtime is very popular, so book in advance!
