Where is Cockenzie House?

🏠 22 Edinburgh Rd, Cockenzie, Prestonpans EH32 0HY

"Cockenzie House is now returning to the cauldron of creativity and industry it once was when the Cadell family managed the saltpans, harbours and local coalmines. It currently hosts 30 artists, small businesses, crafters and a wide variety of allotments and bee keeping. It proudly exhibit works of local artists. Young artists are finding recognition and building profiles and the House and its listed gardens are becoming a popular 'destination' with Cadell's Secret Garden, the Hecla Gallery and a host of other recitals, events, parties and weddings. As a community venture, we are always looking for volunteers to maintain and develop our operations, as well as donations. If you would like to help, please get intouch. Thanks."

Coffee, scones and cake - all great - on a wonderful sunny and warm March day, sitting outside in their rooftop cafe, served by friendly staff who'll leave you alone or chat according to your preference. For a Saturday morning it wasn't busy, amazingly, with plenty of tables. We parked round the back and entered that way, via a bit of a rabbit warren through the area occupied by many small businesses - findingyour way when you're new to it, or perhaps disabled it might be a little discouraging. However, there is a lift and look carefully and you'll see signs for where to go (so, suggestion, the route to the cafe from the back could be marked up better!) Access from the front is easier, I seem to remember. They've also got a nice garden to wander around in, and access to the coast and the John Muir way along it, is a few yards away to the North. Also, learn about the history of the house and Prestonpans (famous battle!) while you're there.

Great coffee and big menu of food, will be back to try more. Lovely outside seating areas.

Had breakfast in their cafe. Lovely and clean. Decor great. Staff very pleasant and food very tasty. Especially their scones! Will definitely visit again soon.

The place and Gardens are great (4****) but the cafe area is every time worse (2**). Poor service (low skills waitresses), hardly any staff wearing a mask, menú has reduced options (hardly any cooked meals) and cake quality depends of how lucky you are (sometimes delicious and others dries). Often tables left unclean for a while even if the waitresses comes around 3 times still not able to pick things on her/his way out to clear it out.

The cafe is lovely and has a wood burner which made it very cosy on a bright but very cold day.The views over the Forth towards Fife were beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and although we were tempted by the delicious cakes and pastries, we did not indulge...on this occasion! However, we will be back!!

Visited the cafe the other day. Staff were lovely and attentive. Unfortunately my coffee was a little off. There were some coffee grounds at the bottom of my cup which were not very pleasant! Might have just been bad luck of my part though!

Great café, lovely grounds lots to see and do. I visited in the winter so the ground weren't at their best. The cafe and grounds are dog friendly which is a bonus
