Rocks in East Lothian

It's so hit and miss. We live in Dunbar and won't be back until they can sort out the food and service. Service was slow, menu hadn't changed in months and the fish and chips was so overcooked and greasy. They added a 10% tip to a party of three.

Stayed at the Rocks for a few nights last week and it is an amazing spot.Highly recommend the rooms, the restaurant and the bar!Can't wait to come back later in the summer

We were here just over a week ago. There was a warm friendly atmosphere in the bar (we had the dog with us) partly due to the log fire which was very inviting.Staff were efficient and friendly but the food let them down.The starters of goats cheese and beetroot and soup were ok, although the soup was rather thick.My main meal of steak and chips with onion rings was tasteless and the chips and onion rings were burnt black! I asked for replacements and was told by the young female server that they were black because they were triple cooked! I couldn’t believe my ears. Nevertheless, she did bring me another portion of chips but not onion rings?I ate the chips and fed the steak to the dog as he prefers unseasoned meat.My husband had fish pie which he said was ok.A young man approached us and was interested in our experience and past experiences of the Rock’s. He removed the starters from our bill and apologised for our experience. He said that he was from the sister restaurant and was taking complaints very seriously. He assured us that we would see a difference the next time we visit.I hope so, because the prices are for quality, not what we were served. We will wait a while before we go back. However, we will return to give the restaurant a second chance.

That was bad. Had them 5 stars but now....Booked for Sunday roast. Told them there would be a vegetarian. Got there and no vegetarian options except extra vegetables. Lucky I had the rice and pea risotto 🤢. The two roasts were little bit of chicken and mash. No puddings, roasts potatoes or cauliflower and cheese ( wasn't told before it arrived) glad I didn't ask for the vegetarian option, that's a lot of mash. Didn't hang around for the children's party list of desserts.Staff were miserable. On top of everything had to argue that we didn't have a bottle of wine. Bad evening out.

Excellent service and food but coffee machine was broken. The private room booked would have been much improved by some soft furnishings as the acoustics made conversation difficult

We have been here before and had a nice meal with our friends who have a flat in Dunbar which we stay at when available. Have tried to book directly to stay but no movement on prices especially when the staff are saying they are closing early in the week for a couple of nights. We booked dinner in evening which was in the bar area. Food was good but a couple in there had a dog on a long lead that seemed to terrorise every table that had food on it! Never again - dogs should be under control or at home where they belong.

Went for an evening meal. The menu was not as listed online, instead given a bistro menu which was no where to be found on the website. With only 4 starters and 4 mains the options were very limited and what you'd expect in a typical chain pub.Had to send my steak back as medium-rare was served well-done.Service was inconsistent although typically friendly and apologetic.This was a very nice place to visit previously but unlikely I'll be going back.

I am reviewing the food served last night to four diners. March 2014 was the last time I stayed at this hotel and it was fabulous - service and superb meals. Last night we went for dinner. Very limited choice and no veggie option. To be honest we were underwhelmed. New owners need to step-up and get a good kitchen team or the hotel will will become humdrum. There was no real "Atmosphere" , no "Swagger" - mundane.

This place is worth seeking out. The food is of a high standard as we have continued to find over the years. Good coffee. Well behaved dogs welcome. Easy parking. Thanks again.

What a cracking hotel ! We stayed here by chance (long story...) and it was fantastic, nice comfy room and the food, superb. The staff were so friendly & helpful and nothing was a bother. We left knowing we'll be back again and soon.
