The Links Bar & Lounges at Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa in East Lothian

Nice public area, friendly staff and sea view. That's it. Bathrooms in rooms are dated and need TLC. We had 2 rooms and both of them were really noisy. In my room, we heard pipes beginning the bed almost all night. Minibar fridges are too noisy too. We needed to switch them off in the middle of night.The hotel has lots of potential with this stunning location but unfortunately there need to be lots of done before it can be called 5* hotel.

Stunning hotel in fab location. Unfortunately our room wasn't ready and we had to wait beyond our check in time. No offer a cup of coffee while we waited. Some staff really helpful and nice other staff pretty indifferent. Room was lovely but small. Fault with the coffee maker and shower. Hairdryer didn't work. Couldn't really rate this as five star.

Had a fantastic weekend. Lovely room with a sea view. Great dinner with a good choice. Refurbishment is so much better than the old hotel. Staff are very friendly. We had afternoon tea which was very good. My only problem was the breakfast service. 30 min wait for hot by the time we ate that there was nothing much of the buffer left. No butter No croissants no tomatoe juice and most of the cheese and hams curled up at the edges. It would also be helpful to have individual coffee pots we only managed to get one cup each. Overall it was a great hotel only let down by breakfast service. On a personal note I really don't agree with the discretionary 10% service charge added to everything. It adds up to a lot off service charges on drinks and snacks

Had the most amazing Spa weekend here. Hotel has recently been refurbished and our rooms were amazing... Brilliant value for money. Staff go above and beyond to help, food was amazing and Spa treatments to die for. Will definitely be back. This is so much more than a 5 star.

Tastefully decorated for a wow factor, unrivaled views, fantastic staff (favourites, James Ella, Nicole). Spa Gym and Pool are lovely including outdoor thematic pool and steam suite, the gym is open for private membership and I recommend the fitness classes.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Amazing spa/pools/gym, food is exceptional, the puddings especially so! Staff are lovely and very accommodating. Location is gorgeous. Loved our stay.

Unfortunately the first room we were allocated had a problem with the heating and the only rooms available for us to transfer to were much smaller than the suite we had booked and no refund for the change was available when we asked.I was better to be warm than cold so we reluctantly moved.We normally book butget rooms at hotel chains like Premier Inn and my wife always comments when a room for 2 only has one seat. This room has no seats (or room for them) and only one mirror, which is in the bathroom so not suitable for my wife to do her hair.Overall very disappointed with the room although the staff were polite

We stayed at marine hotel for 2 nights with family on 2 Jan 2022. The staff were fantastic starting with Phil showing us up to our room. Very informative and nothing a problem. The refurb of hotel is lovely and we all sat in the drawing room all evening. We ate in the Lawn and food excellent. Again staff so helpful as young kids and babies included in our party. The following evening we decided to eat in the reception area as easy with a young child. When you see Tom Kitchin also eating there you know the food is good! Kids loved the pool and 5 stars for all the staff. We will return next January!

Never seen staff so attentive to the needs and wants of every single guest of a wedding before. Food was unreal, location is breathtaking and the beds are like nestling into a 6 foot chinchilla.Beds can be squeaky so keep that in mind.Also not sure of the name of the dapper gent older gent in the red trousers but he oozes excellence in customer service.

Stayed here for my birthday for three nights 8 to 11 Dec 2021. Staff helpful, hotel was beautiful and breakfast was good.Sadly I had a theft from my room whilst out, of a sum of money, on my birthday. It was very sad for me on that day. The hotel are fully investigating it and the police have been informed. Please don't leave anything out. 😢
