Hands down the best Japanese food in Edinburgh. Lots of vegan options, specials and staples. Highly recommend.

It’s not easy to find great Japanese food in the UK. Harajuku Kitchen is definitely some of the best here. Well executed dishes with authentic taste, and welcoming staff as well.

Had been really looking forward to trying out Harajuku kitchen based on reviews from friends who had been and loved it.We went at 6pm on a Friday and the restaurant was about 70% full with several tables already eating their mains, however we had significant waits for food. It took 30+ minutes for starters to come out and a further 40 minutes for mains (one sushi roll, a hosomaki roll, a sashimi platter and seaweed salad) to come out for 2 people by which point we were rushing to finish to attend a show which spoilt things (despite having allowed plenty of time for most restaurants to eat at a leisurely pace). We asked a waitress if the mains would be coming soon to which she replied "well I hope so" which wasn't particularly reassuring. While we were waiting several people arrived separately to order take out and they were served first while we waited for mains. Our mains eventually came after 4 take out customers had been and gone and we had to rush eating to make our show. The manager brought the bill and had knocked off the service change for the wait which was the bare minimum that could have been done all things considered.Food was fine but nothing amazing, save your money (and time) and go to a different sushi/Japanese restaurant. We won't be going again or recommending to friends.

First time visiting yesterday and so glad I did! What a lovely find! The place was small and minimalistic (in the best kind of way!) but beautiful too. I really appreciated all the little details like the flowers on the table and the chopstick holders. The food was delicious and service was great! Lots of veggie options too which I appreciated. I’ll definitely be back again soon! Thank you Harajuku Kitchen! 🥢🍣

Japanese food is always a good choice and Harajuku is an even good...er choice. Tasty and filling food with a large menu to pick from only made better by the hard working and genuinely attentive serving staff. Good job fellas.🐙🦑🥢 Ichiban Takoyaki!

Katsu Pork curry £14.8If I never been Japan, I’ll say this is ok.This is average to me unfortunately.I wish it could be better cos I heard lots of good comments from friends (who are European tho)Curry: watery and bland. I guess it’s not homemade curry but Japanese curry block from Asian supermarket? Japanese curry is rich and also have sweetness of veggies.Pork: very thin pieces, batter and meat are separated, dry and tough.Pickles: not sweet and not sour and pale colour… lacklustreRice: it’s great Japanese rice but portion is a bit small. Even I’m not a big eater.Staff are really friendly!

We didn't have a booking when we arrived but they still squeezed us in! Which we appreciated so much. The food here was unreal, the hype is well deserved. Had the Tofu Don myself and my partner had the Rafuku and a few sushi portions. The tofu was so well seasoned and my partners rafuku had such depth of flavor. Would come back again in a heartbeat!

Lovely decor, table was set well. We had sparkling sake - delicious, definitely recommended if you fancy a refreshing and unique drink. For starters we tried veggie and pork gyozas - crispy bottom, folded neatly and great dipping sauce. The filling could have been seasoned more but that might just be our preference. We also had takoyaki - absolutely delicious crispy balls of goodness and kara-age chicken. As mains we ordered katsu don - meat was tender and flavourful and chicken teryiaki delicately prepared and covered is delicious sauce. Place was busy so do book a table. Menu has plenty of hot dishes options in case you don’t like sushi like us, and this place could be a good introduction to Japanese food newbies. Overall lovely experience!
