The food was really great and not expensive but the lady working there was not nice to us. She shouted we had to wear masks while entering in, whereas the table we took was just by the entrance. So we opened the door, went one step to the left and sat down, still; she was not happy (even when I told her I am exempt). Maybe she just had a bad day but she seemed to be much nicer to locals, so this place is not very welcoming for tourists. Also, there are no toilets inside.

Totally agree that this cafe is extremely good. I had a take-out full scottish and it did not disappoint. Came hot, well packaged and everything inside was tasty and cooked well. Staff were helpful and friendly. Visit this cafe!

Local business. Wonderful coffee and lovely food. Sausages and bacon were of top quality and better than anything I ever can have in London, so am very envious of the locals who can pop into this cafe everyday. Prices are very fair and competitive and far better than any chain due to everything being freshly made with high quality ingredients. Not your typical greasy spoon as the ambience is wonderful. Spaces to eat in are limited due to the chunky furniture and limited space but when quiet and you can get a seat even with a buggy in tow, so don't bother with any hotel breakfast, this is the one you want to drop into. Just be patient as they make everything fresh and cook it perfectly and that is the service you are paying for.Staff are very welcoming, do a great job keeping tables clean and very friendly and patient with any questions you may have! No itemised receipts which is unfortunate for those of us who need to expense our meals so worth it as a treat even if its out of our own pocket. Coffee is wonderful and far superior to any Costa or other chain nearby! Worth just grabbing as a takeaway but the taste is far better experienced in a real cup to do the coffee any justice. I'm glad to see these guys are surviving despite the pandemic restrictions so please do pop if your nearby and in need of a good cup of Joe with a fantastic ambience and atmosphere created by the decor in this place. Cushions make it a nice and cosy place when its one of those grey miserable days in Edinburgh.

Not open on Saturday as posted on Google. No opening times posted on the cafe door/window. Disappointing to walk over for nothing; please cafe manager, be a tad more diligent with maintaining your opening hours to the public if you plan to use social media to promote yourself?Update: Management replied to explain they post their updated times on Facebook. Two things: 1) it’s always a terrible sign when Management takes constructive feedback and blames the customer for a legitimate complaint and 2) Isn’t this Google? Why would Management tell someone posting on Google that even though they didn’t update their info on Google, they did on Facebook so the public should know NOT to trust the posted info on Google but rather check Facebook for accurate information.It’s a bit ridiculous for any business to use a platform to respond to feedback about their poor communication on THAT platform with an excuse like “you were wrong not to check a different social media platform where we do maintain accurate public communication.”Honestly, Fountain Cafe, if you don’t plan to update your hours on Google to be accurate, despite it taking less than 2min to do so (especially if you do it on Facebook anyway), maybe consider removing your listing on Google until you’re open to keeping your listing here up-to-date. It’s the unspoken agreement of using Google to promote yourself. I found you on Google. I believed your communication in Google was accurate. It was not, and I provided feedback to the inaccuracy on Google. And your feedback is to check Facebook and not Google without any acceptance of (or gratitude for…) the feedback. You could have left a friendly response simply thanking the public for “the feedback and pledging to work harder”, which would have made you look gracious and responsive. Instead, you seem combative and unwilling to hear constructive comments. What was a communications failure to start now shows a deeper issue with the mentality of this business and a lack of desire to be customer centric.I hope this revised review helps you towards becoming better at maintaining your online presence. Remember, this interaction began with us trying to patronize your cafe based on your posted opening hours, which were inaccurate. Rather than being defensive about what was a simply mistake on your end, try and look at your online management responses as a way to show you respond positively to feedback. It’s a better look for a business serving the general public, even if you don’t really care about the feedback, looking like you do will create more goodwill.

Excellent value for money. Best cooked breakfast we had whilst staying in Fountainbridge. The staff were attentive and friendly.

Such a warm and welcoming cafe on a quiet street. We had the eggs and smoked salmon, and the portion size is generous! So delicious, warm and fresh! We also had a very tasty cappuccino and some sparkling lemonade. The staff was attentive and so kind, and we received our meals quickly. A perfect place for breakfast and really made our first morning in Edinburgh special .

Absolute gem of a place! Cute interior, lovely staff and the food is absolutely glorious. Definitely go for the full Scottish, I absolutely loved it. Also their coffee is great, if you have breakfast included at your hotel skip it and come here it's so much better.

Everything was what we wanted! Excellent choice, friendly staff, quality, freshly cooked breakfast, excellent tea and coffee and all served at our table. I wish I'd remembered to take a picture but the look of the food put that at the back of my "things to do " list. If we're near again, we will be visiting!
