Howies Victoria in Edinburgh

Howie's seems to be an institution in Edinburgh where everyone visiting wants to stop by.We had the "award winning" haggis (with the glengoyne) and the Cullen skink to start. While the haggis was some of the best that I had in Edinburgh it wasn't the best I'd ever had while in Scotland, the Cullen skink was actually a better dish to start with.The mains were also good, some of the better food that we had found in Edinburgh.One point to note that came up in a few reviews is that the staff are rude, they definitely are, if you know this before going then you can brace yourself. For the price that you're paying you'd expect better service, so be warned. Did the food make up for it a little. Would I return, probably not.

This is a great place to eat pure and simple. All three courses were excellent. In particular, the venison was amazing. The staff are friendly and the part we were in was romantically lit. A really enjoyable evening and we would definitely go back. Book early as this place is popular.

Warm and friendly. The restaurant was very atmospheric. The food was fantastic. Service was excellent. Staff were very knowledgeable. Excellent choice of whiskies. What more can I say other than I loved it.

Good food and comprehensive Scottish menu in a beautiful surrounding. Very good deals during the week days that makes it even better.

Came here in 2019, couldn't wait to return. I will always stop here when in edinburgh. The food is amazing, staff are friendly and very professional. I will return again. I have yet to find haggis on the superb level outside of this restaurant.

Absolutely fabulous restaurant with the most delightful food - perfect for my 50th birthday meal out. Superb atmosphere, great service and I was touched by the thoughtful birthday gesture with my dessert. Would love to dine here again!

A wee bit of a rocky start here where we arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 pre booking and we were turned away and told they were busy and under staffed, we asked if we could sit outside to wait with a drink and told no. I thought that it wasn't very hospitable for a restaurant but returned at 7;30 to a very different experience,The server was very kind and polite and gave us a free starter for the wait and was attentive without crowding us.The food was nothing short of of amazing, nothing on the plate wasn't there for a reason. A must visit. And prices weren't silly.

Great service from the moment we made the reservation. Lovely main menu with lots of Scottish produce, with a kids menu ensuring that they cater for all the family. Our biggest splurge during our recent break (2 courses + bread, olives, sides & alcohol) but definitely worth it. The waitress serving us was really attentive and great with the kids and as we sat outside, we finished our meal as we watched the sun go down.

A cute restaurant with some local Scottish products and friendly staff. All the food we tried was really tasty. Can get pretty busy during lunch so I would recommend to book a table beforehand.
