Loon Wah in Edinburgh

Arrived ahead of time and piping hot. Squid with ginger and spring onions was mostly just sliced onions with a couple of spring onions in it. The squid was over cooked and chewy and not nice. However the chicken satay skewers were well cooked and still juicy in a tasty sauce. Would I go back again probably not. Chef chi is more expensive but but definitely better. Just avoid the chips with curry sauce which is more like potatoes swimming in curry sauce.

I can't find the words to say how special this place is. The foods spectacular 😋 and the service is great. Would never go anywhere else now x

Of all the take away the Edinburgh that I have been able to try, this is undoubtedly the best. The food is very good and the service is fast, even though I think the price is a bit high, especially for the area where it is located. But I'll still be ordering from them for sure because I love it.

The Loon Wah is now back to it's best again. Amazing really quality fresh authentic chinese food. And yes I have been coming here for the last 25 years. And the NEW owners have got it perfect now. Just a few teething problems at the start. No where else can match the Loon Wah by a country mile. If you have tried elsewhere from being a loyal Loon Wah customer before, you will know what l mean. Get back now all is sorted. You will be surprised.

Been going here for over 20 years and food always been exceptional. Unfortunately it has new owners and the chicken curry I had was bland . Wont be back!

DO NOT USE THIS FAKE LOON WAH ANYMORE!!!Called and ordered food as they told me on the phone and in the take away that it was the same chef and same menu. I should’ve known better🙈. Nothing more than another terrible Chinese take away just after your cash. All bought in cheap produce, nothing at all like the previous Loon Wah everyone loved. Food is well below standard. If you have no palet and just eat anything? Go here. They apologized for lying when I called back to complain. I for one won’t ever order here again. Loon Wah as we know it is gone forever I think. It was good while it lasted. Jenny I hope you and your husband have a long and happy retirement.

Sadly I have to echo the previous review. This Loon Wah is not the one we have been using for the last 20 year. I have ordered twice from here since it changed hands. First time I assumed it was just a friend looking after the place but when I collected the next time the new owner confirmed it is now under new management. The meal was abysmal both times. It used to be that Loon Wah was the best in Edinburgh (we still went after moving out of delivery catchment) but now there are plenty Chinese takeaways that better than this bland, beige, greasy takeaway. Super sad to have lost Jenny and Co but wishing them all the best. Sadly this is one to avoid.

Avoid... Seriously avoid! After being asked several times my address, postcode, order, telephone number and name, the guy asked how I would pay? Cash I replied and I need a receipt please. What is your name again came the response. I hesitated and stated I am getting worried now that you're not writing this down... OK I cancel your order we close now. Not worth the effort.

One of the best places for Chinese food in all of Edinburgh. So speedy, delicious, and very cheap. I order from here multiple times a month and have never been let down. The woman working the counter is so lovely and delivery is always speedy too. Definitely recommend!!

Immensely rude woman on the phone. When I asked simply why she put me on hold to answer another call and take their order she said 'if you don't like it, call somewhere else'. She is foul to talk to in person. I have given up with them. Found Chef Chi instead- delightful service and much better food.
