Best Fish and Chips in Scotland! Outstanding balcony views of Edinburgh city scape. Extremely friendly staff have us lots of local insight and just a lovely place to sit and relax. A must see when visiting Edinburgh, it sits above JK Rowling's inspiration for Diagonally!

Not sure where the space cowboys leaving reviews have been but they're not describing this fantastic restaurant (for a start, some describe food not even on the menu here). We called in for lunch on a Sunday around midday, on my daughter's birthday weekend. We all ordered different dishes: steaks, seafood, pasta and they were all great. The wine was good too.I'm a big fan of eating out and have the belly to prove it. Maxies is on my list next time we're in Edinburgh as I'd love to try more of the menu! See you next year, thanks again!!

Had a decent portion of seafood linguini, my friends had other meals that were also fine and reasonably priced for center of the city.

Booked a table for 2 here with their Christmas menu and I absolutely loved it as well as the friend I was with. When we walked in their were Christmas crackers on our table and the food was lovely compliments to the chef who made it.

Nice location But not good food and of course expensive for the food they served!!

Poor service, poor quality and overall a poor experience. Tia Maria coffee came with no cream and the cheesy garlic bread was smeared in greasy cheddar and limp. Menu was handwritten and laminated. The clues were there which we should have spotted. Feel for the Spanish tourists on the next table as this is not an Edinburgh finest. It's not cheap either.

Was recommended to come here by a local pub who wasn't serving food. We had not reserved, as it was a last minute thing before the ghost bus tour. All I can say is that all the poor reviews I simply dont understand as it was a good experience for us. The service was good, the food was truly excellent, and good choice of beers too. Would go back anytime.

We were handed the bill and asked to pay before we finished our meal, to the surprised looks of everyone sitting around our table. The reason was that we spent (what they considered to be) too much, so they were afraid we would leave without paying. The waitress was very sweet and seemed utterly embarassed to be doing that, so we could tell the nonsense was coming from above, maybe from someone too limited to subscribe to an app payment service or to simply ask customers sitting outside to pay for their orders beforehand (something they don't do because apparently it is only necessary to request that to the undesirables). So be warned that if you are a young couple, tourists, too generous with your money when on holidays, want to sit outside to smoke or is deemed suspicious by them in any way, you're in for the special treatment of the house.Almost forgot the funny part: even though we spent enough to be considered suspicious, they still charged us for tap water.

Visited 25/10/21 and simply the worst meal I think I've ever had. Frozen vegetables served as 'fresh seasonal'. Deep fried tasteless prawns (the tiniest king prawns I've ever seen) in a salad consisting of a 49p bag of mixed leaves with cut up cucumber and flowery tomato! The only reason I ate it was because it was 9pm and the chances of getting anything else at that time on a Monday was remote. Do yourself a favour and AVOID at all costs. I have NO IDEA how they get 4 stars - that is a joke.

Sat down, weren’t greeted by any members of staff. Other half went in to check if it was table service or order at the bar. Had to rely on a couple sat near us for a drinks menu and food menu. Waited for about 20 minutes, the couple next to us asked the waiter to come to us so we could order our drinks and food.Waited an half an hour for our starter, but ended up waiting an hour before our main course came out. At this point we had finished our first drink and was on our 2nd drinks. I ordered the seafood linguine which was not very nice. The pasta tasted like it was over cooked or out of a tin. When we finally got the bill, the price was not justified for the customer service or the quality of the food and the atmosphere. There were 4 other families that arrived after us, and ended up leaving without ordering anything.Would probably go again for drinks, but not a good experience over all for the food and atmosphere.
