Really expensive, which you accept for the location. But so decidedly average, a bit dirty and just not worthy of the prices charged !

Customer service is atrocious, tried to collar the guy cause the malteser cake was inedible the guy responded saying "am not table service" before I had even mentioned anything in a very rude manor... Take your own food and avoid this, food over priced also.

Was cozy and prices within normal range, the cake and cookies section was in such a mess! (This visit was before the global pandemic covid-19)

No bacon roll was on offer! What the actual?! Ended up getting a ham and cheese baguette for me and the kid,it’s insanely tough to bite thank god we’ve good teeth or else there would be a lawsuit . Coffee and scone were ok though but then I don’t know how anyone could mess that up.

I had a wonderful lunch here for a more than fair price. The cafe was clean and the staff was very friendly. They have a nice selection of mains, pizza, cakes and other baked goods and drinks. The views from the windows are very nice. It is a good place to begin or end your trip to the castle or perhaps a midway pick me up or cake and tea!

It’s a big place with a lot of tables and good hot food, I was lucky and got my pizza from the furnace. Of course it’s not cheap

I didn't mind that food was basic and a bit pricey and but I had a bad experience there. Ordered lunch and drink for a party of 8 people and 5 hot chocolate with marshmallows on top, for my friend and our 4 kids and paid at the counter. It was a very cold and rainy day ( 2/4/18) so the queue was long and I didn't mind waiting. The staff who made my drink is named GINKA (As on her badge). She asked me for a few times what was I waiting to collect and I told her at least 3 times I was still waiting for 5 hot chocolate with marshmallows on top. After 15 minutes waiting she showed me 4 tiny cups of plain hot chocolate and said she was making the last cup for me. I asked her I would like the marshmallow on top and she smirked at me and said : "lady, you have to pay for it!" I said "I did" and showed her the receipt. She did not say anything but scattered a tiny amount of marshmallows on each cup. Then she brought the last cup without any marshmallow and when she saw that I was still standing there waiting, she said there were already marshmallows in it. It turned out she put the marshmallow inside the cup then poured the hot chocolate on top ( really???!!!). I was boiling I could not care less about the drink (of course the kids were upset as their drinks were horrible) but I asked myself is that the way you treat customers in one of the main attraction of Edinburgh? With no respect? Uh oh! If it was another time I would have asked for the manager and had a chat with them but I did not make a fuss as there was a long queue behind me. I hope somebody will read this and rectify the problem. You should know who you are hiring to serve your customers and keep an eye on them.

The soup is good especially on a rainy day. The lady at the food service is nice but the cashier guy, David C, kept talking with his colleague and even didn't bother to look at me until I asked to pay with card. Please respect the customers when working and respond to their greeting at least by looking at them!

Yummy, hot bowl of Potato, leek and butter soup with breads on the side, but steeply priced at ÂŁ5.5 per bowl. Pizza slices were extremely overpriced for their size. Lots of sitting space though, which is a good thing about the place.

I expected much more of the Christmas lunch I had at the Jacobite room of the Edinburgh castle. The food was ok and it was a cool experience, but nothing really outstanding.
