I was sadly disappointed as I expected good food. While the risotto did have stock in it, it looked like boiled rice. It had clearly been made a long time before and the wild mushrooms amounted to about 3 sprung on top. The burger was OK. The staff however, were wonderful, friendly and very helpful.

The music is super loud. Ordered the vegan option, it came with 1 mushroom cut in half, 4 slices of avocado and 2 cubes of sweet potato, and a full bowl of plain arborio rice. No special cocktails or diversity of options for drinks (apart from the ones in a bottle).Maybe a place for people under 25, or who don't mind over processed food. The staff is super friendly.

Booked 3 weeks before visiting so as to ensure we would get good seating (11 guests) only to find on arriveal that despite it being a restaurant mainly made up of tables and chairs, they had reserved a bench for us which was not suitable for some of the older members of our group.

Will not be back, and cannot recommend anyone goes until they treat the staff better.I’ve been to the Red Squirrel many times over the years. I took some friends from out of town on Sunday for food and drinks as the menu had a lot of options and the drinks are always good.I have life threatening allergies, so when it came to ordering food the server went to double check with the kitchen. We were horrified when she came back in tears a few minutes later, as the chef had apparently berated her for asking stupid questions. I thought she’d gone above and beyond, and was doing a great job.It wasn’t a stupid question, and goes to show how seriously the kitchen takes these things - apparently not very. From speaking to other staff members this isn’t an isolated incident, and the management allows the kitchen to get away with bullying the bar/waiting staff. We left in disgust without ordering food, and won’t be back as the culture seems to be toxic and I’d rather not support businesses that don’t take food allergies seriously and allow staff to bully each other.

Booking was made for after the panto. Great choice for a party of 7. Choice of food covered the grandchildren, vegetarian and me... Greedy pig. Food was excellent. Cocktails delicious, service was very friendly and atmosphere was buzzing. Not bad for 4:30pm. Pleasantly surprised as did not know what to expect

Finding somewhere that accepts dogs in Central Edinburgh is not easy. After a Google search we hit upon this place and we were very pleased we did.The staff were friendly and welcoming. The dogs were given water and biscuits. The menu was varied and the food was very tasty. My husband enjoyed a burger and I had a falafel flat bread. It was lovely and freshly made.I would recommend this place without reservation.

The food in this place is delicious, as were the cocktails and the service was great too - food and drinks arrived in good time and the staff were very friendly. My only feedback would be that, as a dog-friendly venue, please don't put a booking with a dog under a speaker playing music. It was on the louder side even for us humans, and the only place we could put our dog was in the corner beside the table, under said speaker. I also noted from other Google reviews that their dogs were given water and treats - my boy missed out there too I'm afraid. So, I would come here again, but I have to say I would be hesitant to bring my pooch back, or recommend it as dog "friendly"

Had the Vegetarian Scottish breakfast at the red squirrel. Really liked the plant based Haggis and plant based sausage!

Not many dog friendly places to eat in Edinburgh. This gastro pub was welcoming to my dog and even gave him some water. The food was great too

The Place is really nice, all the staff very friendly and welcoming. They are also dog friendly and give us some water and some treats for our dog. The food was outstanding. Highly recommended.
