Really lovely food and staff. The portions are large and tasty. We stayed at the hotel and looked forward to breakfast and dinner each day.

Excellent place for a traditional afternoon tea. I had a gluten free option and the cakes were superb.

Prestonfield House Hotel, Edinburgh, built in 1687 as the grand baroque home of Edinburgh's Lord Provost, is now one of Scotland's highest-rated hotels and home to the destination restaurant, Rhubarb. Set in twenty acres of secluded private grounds, although just five minutes from Edinburgh's historic attractions, Prestonfield offers old world opulence, with private dining rooms, lavish salons, and a whisky room containing unique furniture made of antlers. As we arrived for our dinner we were greeting by very smart and friendly staff and escorted to one of the cosy private rooms for pre-dinner drinks. Rhubarb restaurant, occupying the grand Regency rooms at the heart of the hotel, looked inviting with its wood paneling, heavy drapes, central large chandelier and candle lighting at the tables. The restaurant offers the finest Scottish produce, locally sourced from small artisan suppliers and our meals were a gourmet delight, including the vegetarian options. The restaurant also offers an extensive quality range of wines from around the world. This was a memorable experience and one I would recommend to anyone seeking a special experience during their time in Edinburgh.

One of the most beautiful and Romantic restaurants. The welcome was warm, the host was very friendly. Our waiter too, very attentive and polite, my glass of champagne was delayed so he apologized and it was a treat on the house, very nice gesture for this not being an issue at all :) . Food was absolutely outstanding, great wine selection, the interior is divine. Their cat Raven was around when we were leaving that was a cute surprise. Can't wait to be back

Where to start? Such a beautiful place, it feels one is being transported back in time where the dinner settings were more romantic. The food itself was wonderful that I even went back twice in the same week. The staff is attentive and really kind! One of my favourite restaurants in the UK, I would definitely go back again. Although the setting is more for two persons as it is romantic, I would say don’t let that steer you away from it when you are alone. One can be in a romantic setting by himself and enjoying a proper meal.

I would love to just extend a huge thank you to all staff at the Prestonfield! Our Hen Party had such a wonderful time, we where pampered and well taken care of. To our service person, to our wonderful ladies who brought in our cakes and snacks who also did a fantastic job explaining the dishes to us, to reception who where warm and very welcoming. Each and every one of you are a credit to this wonderful place. Thank you again for making our bride to be very happy and relaxed, you spoiled her rotten. Also a huge compliment to the chef's as well, the food was faultless, just perfect.

What a wonderful place. We went for lunch and had the very reasonably priced set menu. The food was incredible and beautifully presented and we were extremely full afterwards too. The setting was stunning from the room we were in, to the view out of the window. Service was fantastic and so friendly too. I would highly recommended for a special occasion or to make any occasion feel special (including popping in for a cuppa). Beautiful grounds to walk off that lunch afterwards too.

Great atmosphere and charm. Not cheap but good value. Service was attentive and knowledgable. After dinner make sure you ask to return upstairs to none of the themed lounge rooms for drinks.

Rhubarb at Prestonfield House Hotel is an elegant and extravagant venue, and it cannot be faulted on presentation - it is simply stunning. They have peacocks roaming the grounds, sumptuous cushions scattered absolutely everywhere, and heavy fabric curtains adorn every room, even the bathrooms! Service is generally good and the staff are attentive. We had the champagne afternoon tea for six, which was good quality overall, except the bread used for sandwiches was a little stale at the ends, which you don't expect given the prices you're paying. However I only feel able to give Rubhard three stars, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we booked the table for 12pm and arrived just after 12.10pm, and the table wasn't ready for us. Not really a big deal, I know, but in a place which otherwise offers such impeccable service, it was a little surprising that we had to wait in the reception area. The main issue was when we were directed to use the back entrance because one of our group was on a wheelchair and only the back entrance had a lift. That was fine, so we walked right around the building and waited at the back door. The staff member told us he would be there, waiting for us, to let us in. He was not there and the door was locked and closed. I had wait 5-10 minutes, then eventually called someone inside the resturant to ask a staff member to come down and let us in, which they did, with apologies to be fair. It was frustrating and not suggestive of the extremely high standards of service and throughtfulness that can usually be expected of this venue.I recognise that the issues I had during my visit are very specific to me and not likely to be repeated, so although I only feel able to rate it as 3 stars, I'm sure that for many other people this will understandably be a consistent 5 star venue.
