Fantastic place to eat traditional Scottish food on the Royal Mile. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Be sure to either eat early or book a table because it gets very busy!Of course we had to order the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties! And very glad we did, it was delicious! Also the Haggis stuffed chicken! And you have to end your meal with a Cranachan! So Yummy!!The whisky selection looked amazing and the bar staff sounded very knowledgeable on advising. We saw lots of people with little sample trays of craft beers and whisky's which looked great!

Visited this pub on October 19 with three friends while visiting Edinburgh. With drink orders taken but one my friend wanted one of the whiskys behind the bar. Turns out that it was not on the beverage list and the bar staff would not serve it because they could not make a decision as to how much to charge. Even after a call to "someone" they couldn't make a decision, not what a customer whats to hear. Our table service was by Sandra who took good care of us and we enjoyed the Waldorf Salad and Salmon starter. But we departed after starters due to the poor bar customer service.

We had the roasted chicken half and the beef and ale pie with the night's cask ale. Food and beer were quite good, though the chicken was a bit dry. The staffs were friendly and helpful.

Here's a pub that has it's s**t together.Seriously.It's a pub. But they have at least a couple of interesting beers on tap, some bottles on the wall that are not bog-standard, the food is just a wee bit better than "very good", the staff is friendly to a fault, the inside is clean, oh, I could go on.The bottom line is that the place seems to give a damn, and that makes all the difference in the world. So no, this isn't a "Destination" spot. Then again, if you're on the way to the castle, or just in the hood, it's a perfectly good place to stop for a bite and a drink...Oh, btw, the food really *is* better than expected. The fish 'n chips is really good, but that's (somewhat) easy. The other stuff on the menu though, oh, is actually, surprisingly, good

The Royal Macgregor offers a whisky tasting meal. You can buy a voucher and use it yourself or give as a gift. I ordered mine online and booked a reservation 3 months in advance. This was to coincide with my trip the Edinburgh. Our attendant Kim was delightful and informative. Taught us the three steps to enjoying whisky. We sampled from 4 regions of Scotland, and 3 courses. The food was really good send plated well.Smoked salmon with a pickled cucumber and baby spinach greens. Then the crofters chicken... Chicken breast stuffed with haggis and a whisky sauce, finished with a cheese plate... What a feast.Everyone was so friendly. If you want to know the three steps... You need to book your own whisky tasting.Highly recommended... Worth every penny.

Very cozy and intimate for seating. Great variety of food selections. Definitely was something for everyone. The prices weren't bad for the lunch menu and had a decent selection of beers and drinks.

Incredibly good food. Very kind employee. Pleasant atmosphere. What more could you ask for? I can recommend it and I would eat here again.

Had always been curious about Haggies and got a chance to try it here. Tried the one with whisky sauce. Could not finish it as it got cloying as far as the half of the meal. The texture was plain and mushy. Could not enjoy it. Liver parfait was okay.

Went in here after most restaurants were booked out along the royal mile. All these restaurants took only by reservations during the Christmas and New year's time and so we couldn't get into any in the vicinity of the royal mile. Luckily we were accepted here with just a few minutes of wait time. We ordered the haggis and beef pie. Thier mulled wine is the best I have had so far in my travels to europe. They have a good selection of beers whiskey and scotch. Loved the food and the service. Staff were really friendly. A good place to relax and enjoy a few beers with some really good food.
