Stables Bistro in Edinburgh

Lovely family meal enjoyed here on Saturday night. Husband had the steak and ale pie which was delicious. I had the chicken Balmoral. The mashed tatties were delicious, best I've had in a long time. Good kids menu too.

We had the dinner plate and sat in. The roast beef was too tough to chew so my friend didn't enjoy her meal. I had just Yorkshire pudding and veg thought the Yorkshire pudding a bit soggy. Wouldn't go back.

What an Excellent start to our Edinburgh stay at Mortonhall campsite! Very friendly welcome at the Stables bar and restaurant … they fitted us in during a busy Sunday evening.There were several gluten free food options and to cap it all at the bar was a gluten free lager…on draught! Top marks.

Staff were great, food was well below average. Probably the smallest portion of coleslaw imaginable, when i pointed this out I was told, 'it's only for decoration'. ..incredible! My partners macaroni cheese was absolute dog food, small portions of chips...I could go on. The kind of food that shows the chef just doesn't care! Lovely beer though.

After a 5 hour drive we arrived, recommended to reserve a table for food at reception which is fine but we just wanted a drink, so walked over. Queued up, no signs suggesting a delay for a drink, after 15 minutes waiting was told that no orders would be taken and no reservations were available, this was at 1800. Staff complaining they are over worked, doing 14 hour days and not being paid enough, neither are they recieving payment for overtime worked. I asked for just a single drink, response was no. I asked if other bars were close and was told yes there are a few about twenty minute away so better try them. It was a Shame because the last time we enjoyed it here. I really think someone needs to intervene to support the team.

Good food and good pints. Staff are nice and toilets are clean. Good little beer garden usually out the wind as well because it's in a little courtyard. Nice place to walk to for a pint/food on a nice day. Plenty short walks around it as well for nice views.

Was here for a funeral tea. Very disappointing. Very cheap white bread on sandwiches tasted as though it had been frozen or at least chilled. For somewhere that states : "All our food is made on the premises – using fresh, locally-sourced, seasonal produce", the cakes were from a catering frozen pack, and hadn't been fully defrosted. Tea and coffee were self-service, which wasn't ideal where there were a lot of elderly people, some with mobility problems. No napkins, despite all being "finger food". Definitely would not recommend this place.

Friendly pub with decent beer and good quality food. Good pit stop for walkers and cyclists who can park up in the courtyard outside.The bar is a bit gloomy. There's a function room to the side which is much brighter. Toilets clean but need refurbishing.

Unexpected visit after shopping at IKEA.Wonderful country pub serving excellent food and drink. Great service from young staff.Starter, mains, drink and couple of sides for 4 = £100. Nice.Seats/tables nside and out in courtyard.

Whilst this was our second visit here this year, I have to say that the quality of the food and service has dropped since our last visit.The service was rather chaotic, having 3 different waiting staff seating us, or taking food/drink orders ( after a 15 minute wait to order).Starter of soup and Brie and Mango parcels we're fine.The Main course of Steak pie, veg and mashed potatoes were rather a failure.The steak itself was of a rather poor quality in my mind, not to mention a rather iky taste.The mash also had a rather iky taste.All in all, needs to step up a gear or two in my view.
