Enjoyed our meal, we went twice. Excellent value for a city center eatery. Good selection of food, and pleasant staff. 2 for 1 Mon to Thurs. Recommended.

Nice wee place. A bit noisy but other than that it had a nice and relaxed feeling to it. We didn't have food but what we seen coming out from the kitchen looked amazing.

We visited this pub twice during our trip to Edinburgh as it was fairly close to our hotel. The first time was for drinks only, and with a good range of gins we stayed for several. The following night (Sunday) we went back and ate there too. Again, very friendly, quieter than Saturday but steadily busy. Both times we had the same window seat, looking out at the rain! Last orders were 21:15. My wife had scampi, I had the steak pie, both were good. I just wish the meat pie had been shortcrust like the vegan option, but it was still very tasty. Really good experience, thank you

Typical student bar, plush interior, several TV screens, plenty of space. Must have missed covid instructions on the way in because the staff member was rude to us. Unfortunately this put the experience on a negative back foot, but can't blame the facility itself. Not a bad selection of whisky's.

This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Please avoid this establishment. The servers who were working might as well not have been there at all. We walked in looking for dinner and we’re immediately sat next to a very loud, clearly intoxicated table when there were other open tables next to other patrons who were also only there for a pint and dinner. The 2 servers were either not well trained, or completely careless. We ordered our drinks and dinner as soon as a server finally came over. We got 2 of 5 drinks ordered and waited around 20 minutes before we had to go up to the bar and ask for them and proceeded to wait another 10 minutes for them. 3 of 5 dinners came out together (2 of us ordered the regular fish and chips and were given the more expensive big fish and chips). We sat and waited another 20 minutes before having to ask yet again where the meals were. They came out immediately after we asked and the food was ice cold. The 2 who waited didn’t even eat because of how cold and gross it was. The server’s response to our constant questions was “oh, I’m sorry, I forgot”. We also asked for napkins and waited so long one of us just went downstairs to get tissue from the toilets. Completely ridiculous. They were clearly more interested in continuing to serve the OBVIOUSLY drunk table next to us who were their friends and were given round after round before we even got all of our drinks. Seems completely unacceptable for a Wednesday afternoon when it was seemingly slow. I would never recommend The Advocate to anyone.

Definitely avoid if you're hoping to eat edible food. Our party of 9 had almost every food item wiped from our final bill. The food was simply awful. Nachos were cold, steak was like an old carpet, and half the menu was unavailable.

Really nice and friendly little pub close to the mile. Clearly they were super busy and short-staffed when we went in but even with the restrictions and limitations our host did not lose her calm or became impatient. Good was decent but the service simply amazing. Good choice of beers and drinks to go along too. It's recommend this any day. Thanks.

Definitely would not recommend eating here! The customer service was appalling, the waitress didn't give us any cutlery and expected us to use our hands. She gave us cutlery eventually but did not place it on the table properly which resulted in it all dropping on the floor. We ordered ÂŁ80+ worth of food, it came 1hr30 mins later. We overheard a few tables complain about the food and the waitress was offering refunds. We were dreading our food after hearing the complaints, I can't believe I was served a burnt burger with a cherry tomato cut in half (photo attached), cold fries and multiple wrong dishes. 0/10 would not waste money eating here.

I did not realise that this pub was now order at the bar - it also seemed a bit chaotic in general, not what I remember this place from pre-pandemic times. Food was very good though.

Great place for food and drink in the heart of Edinburgh, suitable for families most pubs in Edinburgh aren’t. Recommend the steak pie or haggis pie. Chocolate fudge cake is amazing, excellent service.
