We have only visited The basement on one previous occasion, and on that occasion we were very pleased. This second visit was not so good though. My 13 year old son's steak fajitas arrived very under cooked and were very red and rare. This was quite off putting for a young lad who didn't really like the look of such undercooked meat. We very politely asked the chief to cook it a bit more and he obviously didn't like that request as what came back to our table was simply incinerated, burned steak that simply defied any chewing, it was completely inedible. The chocolate dip deserts also tasted extremely peculiar and most of those were left uneaten. This is an expensive Mexican restaurant and we didn't feel the £160 bill for 4 people was value for money as so much of the meal was inedible. We won't be back. If you want a Mexican meal in Edinburgh, there are better places to dine.

Fantastic. Although the prices may look a little steep, the quality and quantity of the food served makes it well worth it. It's hard to go wrong with a margarita, but these were especially good. Speedy and witty service. Funky decor. The basement is a must try for anyone into Mexican food or tequila cocktails.

Really nice Mexican food - some really interesting dishes like the sprout and almond tacos and the goats cheese quesadillas. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Champagne a bit pricey but what can you do eh.

Really cool place - great vibe, good food and nice outdoor area too. The mushroom quesadillas were bangin! Helpful and attentive staff too. Margaritas looked good... shame I was here essay-writing... hasta la próxima!

Lovely atmosphere and great food. The servers were also very nice. The frozen passion fruit margarita was delicious and came in the cutest cactus glass

Food is delicious, atmosphere is perfect and the staff are amazing. The staff were so helpful when I wanted to make my partners birthday special. They let me bring a cake and they stored it for us and DIDN'T sing as per my request. We got a private booth and it was everything we wanted! Thank you again!

This is a pretty nice place! The thing that boosts my review is definitely the food, by far some of the most delicious I've had in a while! The drinks were really great too, I had a delicious margarita, and me and my friend both agreed that the choices on the menu were great and definitely worth the journey into the city! The only things that make this a 4 instead of a 5 star review are that it felt a bit cramped, given that covid is still a thing the tables (while they were separated by plastic shields) were quite close together and the "basement" situation meant that there were no windows to open which left it feeling a little claustrophobic, especially as it was a warm evening.Another thing was that the music was so loud I could barely have a normal conversation with my friend without shouting a little which over dinner isn't exactly ideal! I guess it depends on whether or not you mind a little background noise, but I personally found it too loud! With the music and then everyone having to raise their voice to be heard it was sort of like having dinner in a busy club!Overall I'd say it's worth a visit for the food and cocktails, but be warned if you are still hesitant about covid, and maybe try to go when it's a bit quieter!

Nice atmosphere in the restaurant and both the food and drinks were nice. I would say it was overpriced for what you get, in comparison to other good quality Mexicans nearby.
