the merlin in Edinburgh

Had a great time, the staff really made my day, especially Cameron! He was very chatty and charmed me into getting his favourite - the burger sliders, which were delicious! If I could give 6/5 I would :)

A fairly generic bar - big screen sports, modern building, clean and spacious. It does have a decent selection of whiskies, and some local beers on rotation. Large function room upstairs, and lots of outdoor seating (for Edinburgh!). Beers are cheap too - less than £3 for a pint.

The Merlin offers 2 pint cups for your beer. Definitely ideal for the rugby. But then again they could’ve just looked like 2 pinters cause my server Mark was holding it. Great service as always.

What Merlin ya wantin'?Class food, staff are attentive. Great place and not too far from city centre. Shout out to Mark who was and is an excellent host. Upholds the Merlins standards and the experience he provided makes you want to visit again!

Fantastic bar and such friendly bar staff. In particular thomas. He had great knowledge of the ales and whiskies and such a welcoming polite young man. Will def be back

I sat next to a man named Gilbert. He was an absolute delight. He was a little down as his wife had just left him. On the upside he had, that very night, found a fiver around the back on the bins outside. We had a rare laugh about it. Earlier that evening on my way to the merlin a light breeze crimsoned my cheeks with its frosty kiss, the gentle laughter of a young couple filled my heart to capacity with a warmth that battled the brisk winter evening with a hell like fury. Upon entering the premises I was greeted with a glow of friendly faces, leaving me tantalisingly close to hugging the man who greeted me at the door. Mark Carvel approached. A handsome chap with a heavenly demeanour. We danced our way to the bar and he poured me a golden pint of nectar. Five minutes later I was speaking to Gilbert and that was that. Wonderfull times. A lovely local pub. Had some food here excellent quality. Would recommend if you are pushing.

Sure , I can say exactly why a 2 star was given.Came here on a Saturday, and we ordered fish and chips and the chicken strips. To be Frank we wish we wish we had just stuck to the drinks , the food was missing ........ taste. You would have done a better job if you had just given us birds eye fish fingers and the chicken was far over cooked (was as if you tried to turn it into biltong).And be warned any one else that need to use the toilets , you will need to get a tetanus shot after using their toilets at the merlin, the state of the toilets are in are horrendous!

Using the app to order was super convenient. Every food item we ordered was cooked well and tasted great. The staff was helpful and kind. The abundant outdoor seating was perfect on a sunny summer day. We are in the area every Friday, and now plan to be regulars.

This place is such a good find! Sooooo much space inside and outside, amazing seating and shelter, and big tables! Drinks were amazing (we highly recommend the bramble gin). Food was 9/10. Brilliant, large menu and very efficient ordering.
