Interesting place with good beer and friendly staff

Really welcoming staff. Throw back to real pubs from yesteryear. Nice pint of Deuchers IPA to finish off a day walking the streets of Edinburgh. Free bookmark was a nice touch too. Was that one of Mr Rankin's ideas?

Well it was a lovely nightcap to a lovely trip! We stopped in close to last call but never felt rushed. Lovely conversation on a slow Monday evening with Katie (don't call her Katy. They're her enemies) about everything and nothing in particular. She has a kind hand for keeping the bar a positive spot. Met a few characters from Manchester and Dunedin who rightously defended the honor of Drambuie. All around brilliant place although we never left the bar itself it has a great, lived in atmosphere. Stop in here.

Great traditional pub in the heart of the city

Mid-afternoon, refused entry.''Oh.Are you fully booked?' 'Yeah.' 'OK, can I book for this evening?' 'Well, actually, we don't do bookings...' 'Ah OK, so it's pot luck?' 'Yeah.' Returned at 10pm, hoping for a nightcap. 'Sorry we're closed,' said the blonde, twenty-something barman, with a smirk on his face. Returned to hotel to check website: yup, Oxford Bar open until 1am. Went to Kay's instead. Lovely place, genuinely welcoming staff, great beer and very tasty rolls. Advice: give the Oxford Bar a miss, even if you're a Rankin fan.

The quintessential pub. Loved this place. It’s small but inviting. Walked into the bar and felt welcomed even though we weren’t locals. Struck up a conversation with everyone ... correction, they struck one with me. It was awesome. Please visit this bar. It’s not hip or modern, it’s authentic.
