Ten years ago this was a lovely cosy pub, perfect for a relaxed pint after walking the dog. Now it tries to be a swanky place and it is consistently disappointing. I’ve been about five times since it changed hands and had a poor experience every time. The food is over-priced. Staff are usually friendly but service is slow. Today for example we wanted to pop in for a juice on our walk, arriving as the place opened at midday, and ended up staying an hour waiting for our two drinks (orange&cranberry and a vermouth&soda) and portion of chips, for which the bill was over £14. I hope one day it will regain the relaxed and welcoming vibe it once had.

Delicious, somewhat creative food and friendly service. Though the times in between meals was quite short, especially between starters and mains. It felt a bit rushed even though it was not super busy. The music upstairs did not really match with rest of the restaurant ambiance.

Had never been there before. Was my grandmothers suggestion as she has always been fond of the restaurant since young. Food absolutely delicious. And from a young person's view who doesn't often consider places that aren't usually socially promoted. I will be highly suggesting this place to my friends and family.

Friendly and efficient service, delicious food and good portions. Had the Valentine's Day menu and ate way too much. Dirty burger with beef dripping was a highlight and the french fries were on point. It was our first visit and won't be our last.

The oldest pub in Edinburgh. Definitely worth a visit, staff was truly attentive, fast and accurate. Food was amazing and basically one of the best burgers I’ve had in recent outings. Great atmosphere!

This place never disappoints! Delicious food and very attentive service. This time I had the gourmet soup of the day - tomato soup with fresh bread and butter on the side, not pictured unfortunately! - and the chicken, brie & bacon pie with belsazar rose spritz on the side. My friend had the freshly battered cod accompanied by blood orange and grapefruit gintonica.I'm quite proud to be the person to introduce my friend to this place as her first impression was 👌🏼😄

Lovely waiter with brilliant food. Every dish was packed full of flavour and each one perfect. We had starters, mains and dessert because everything on the menu looks so good. Everything lived up to the description on the menu and was plate licking you good. Would definitely return and will definitely be back.

The Sheep Heid Inn is a pub and eatery with an interesting history and delightful ambience, set in a beautiful part of Edinburgh. We really loved the atmosphere and the decor. There were quite a few staff, but they were unfortunately all gathered in the other room by the bar (where there weren't diners) so it was difficult and slow to get their attention. The food was very nice, except for the crumble which was too light and had little flavour. Still, I would recommend a visit and I may be back.

This is a hidden gem, but we’ll known. We went on a tip and it was a fantastic Sunday roast. It’s a really friendly pub, the food was mind blowing and they have a bowling alley in the back.I imagine this place is good all year round - but the winter chills don’t seem as bad when you’re in it’s hospitality- a very very good pub, with the right idea about Sundays. Highly recommended

The Heid is fortunate to have a team of professional people working for it both front of house and in the kitchen. The former couldn't have made us feel more welcome and the latter provided a restaurant quality Christmas lunch in a pub. Lovely place, lovely people.
