What a great place and amazing oysters! We walked on the streets on our last day and saw a 20 something lady eating 30 piece of oysters in the window. That saw the first strange sign of something is going on. My wife loves oysters so it made sance to eat one or two pieces, since in Hungary there is no sea. We ended up eating 8 oysters together since there were Sunday Happy Hour for Oysters! That is lucky I have to say but the quality? Hmmm. Best we ever had. We did sit at the bar and our waitress recommended her favorite type of oyster and my wife liked it a lot. When paying I realized there is a happy hour so I asked for 2 of each 3 types and we tried all together too. The one type what is the favorite of the barman was blow my mind. I have to say I became an oyster lover myself thanks to White Horse and the staff. They made us feel good even it was a bit embarrassing to sit in just for two oysters at the first place. Their kindness helped us feel good end relaxed and give us the feeling we want to come back. Thank you guys. I also decided not to eat oysters in Hungary anymore but save up the money and come back this place everytime we are in Edinburg.

Simply the best!!! Amazing food, drink and staff. One of the best meals we have had in years, can't wait to go back for more.

Fantastic service, freshest food good wine, what’s not to like. Happy hour from 4-5pm where oysters are only £1 each. The crab-crusted scotch egg is to die for. Shame the octopus which char-grilled to perfection, compliments to the chef, we’re very small. Definitely recommend and will go again when I return to Scotland.

Shared a lovely meal here with my partner which we booked on short notice, and changed the time of on even shorter notice.Food was all brilliant, would highly recommend the oysters, mussels and octopus in particular. The oysters were great value and served exactly as I like them with lemon, pickled shallots and Tabasco.Only thing that let them down was the drinks, the only beer they had was Guinness which is probably the least suitable beer for seafood. They had plenty of taps advertising other stuff but none were on at the time, they also had no bottles of beer/cider. I appreciate most people will drink wine when eating seafood but for those of us who don’t drink wine it would be ideal to have more beer section.Staff were great and would give 4.5 stars if I could. Will almost certainly be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.

I took my dad here for Father's Day and he absolutely loved it! We ordered the seafood platter with a little selection of everything, and it was all very fresh, tasty and high quality. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was elegant without being stuffy or pompous. They have a great selection of wine and they really know what pairs nicely with the food you're ordering. It's obviously not a cheap place to dine, but it's quite reasonable given the location, standards of service and the freshness of everything served. I will return again on a special occasion.

On 4th September, my wife and I visited this restaurant for our dinner before Queen Tribute concert. We ate very fresh oysters and so on. All meals were very good. All staffs were very kind as usual. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!On 9th June 2021, My wife and I took our dinner at the Oyster Happy Hour in this restaurant. We ordered three different kinds of oyster for our starter. It was so nice! Especially, we love Caledonian oyster! It was so nice for us! Other seafood meals were also very good. Hebridean cheese dish also very nice. All staffs were also very kind! Looking forward to coming back again soon!

I booked this before arriving in Edinburgh, having never been before I was relying on reviews and I have to say the white horse met and exceeded both mine and my girlfriends expectations!!Yes portions are on the smaller side but they make you very aware it is tapas style and I much prefer quality over quantity. The staff were welcoming, maybe a little busy, but only too happy to help when asked. To the people complaining about "vinegar flavoured mussels and clams" it's called pickling and it tends to help if you actually read the menu first. The only criticism I would have of the place is that I can't access it in South London.

Fantastic food! Booked based on previous reviews and was not disappointed! All the seafood dishes we tried were really tasty, but I was particularly impressed with the salmon and the mussles. The sides are really creative too, and we particularly loved the sourdough. Last but not least - and definitely the one dish I'd travel back from London for - their apple tart is to die for! The caramel, the apples the ice-cream, everything is prepared to perfection and mixes fantastically into a dish that melts in your mouth and leaves you speechless!
