Me and my friends went on a coach trip and this was the hotel we stayed at. It was clean modern and food was excellent at both morning and evening. I would highly recommend. Some of the photos don't do it justice.

At a family birthday party here. Meal was lovely. Service very good. No complaints. Would recommend. Nice staff too.

Disappointing, insulting and over-priced is but a handful of phrases to describe our stay at the Cairn Hotel in Bathgate. Our experience was bordering on comically bad and continued a downward slope from bad to worse as our stay continued.Upon our arrival we tried to book into our accommodation from the reception desk and when we gave our names we were told without hesitation that we were not booked in, which compared with the rest of our stay, was amongst the better of our experiences. After the receptionist realised her error we went to our room. The first room we were given was a dark and small room which was very dated and lacked a sufficient level of hygiene. Cob webs were plentiful and the bathroom (which was the best aspect of the room) had a severe rust issue in the bath. There was no main light in the room and the lamps provided were not enough to provide light to the entire room. To solve this issue we tried to use the tv to light the room but this proved to be fruitless. But, with that being said, my partner and I decided to simply deal with it and make the best of our planned 2 nights together, agreeing that while it was not the level of quality we were expecting, at least we were together. The bed we had was satisfactory and provided comfort and warmth, although it was slightly on the smaller side (we aren’t very large people). However, during our stay, one of the other residents (who had been staying at the hotel for several days upon our arrival) had the annoying trait of speaking to himself in a raised voice. This continued from our arrival at 6pm, until our eventual breaking point at 5am the next day. We were woken up with him speaking very loudly right outside our window and that, along with everything else, was enough to annoy me enough to make a complaint.Upon visiting reception, I was assured that the male receptionist had planned to go and speak to him “soon”. Voicing my annoyance, I had hoped this would be the problem solved.20 minutes later, the voice stopped. At around 6am we tried to get back to sleep. 40 minutes later and the annoying resident returned again and the raised voice woke us up again. To confirm, the resident was talking to himself, he had no earphones, AirPods, phones or anything else. He was speaking to himself in a raised voice which could not be ignored. The second time I went down to complain we were met with a female receptionist who was very kind and understanding, she apologised for our experience and attempted to correct our problem. She offered us a new room that we could go to, which was a better room and on the other side of the building. She said not to worry about packing up our room and to just try and get some sleep. We went to the room and, while it was a better room than our last, the bed was two single beds (two different heights) that were pushed together. This was not satisfactory. We returned to the reception and said we would like to be refunded for our next night and that we would be having breakfast (which we had already paid for) and then leaving. We went for breakfast and before we could enter the restaurant, we were met with a very rude and patronising worker who asked us for our face masks. We replied that we are exempt and fully vaccinated with boosters, to which he signalled rather insultingly to our missing badges. This was the last straw. We are not obligated to share our medical history with any company or individual, while you may ask us to wear a mask, that’s it. Our business is our own. Regardless, no masks were provided by the staff so we couldn’t wear one if we wanted to. There was only one other table in the restaurant and when sat at the table you don’t wear a mask. At this point we had enough.Less than 5 hours of sleep, consistently being woken up, as well as a poor quality room. Terrible experience. We cancelled our dinner reservation and won’t be back. 1 star is being generous. Shocking.

I had 3 night here, and thought it very nice. I would certainly stay again as long as the price remained competitive. The room was clean and tidy, but lacked plug sockets. To plug in a charger or kettle, you had to unplug a lamp, which left the room a little dark.

I didn't stay at hotel on this occasion, however I did eat there and I can highly recommend the restaurant. The food on Monday was delicious, and was matched and even improved on Tuesday. The restaurant and bar staff were very attentive, friendly and especially impressed when they remembered me.Very many thanks to the staff, and I'll definitely eat their on next visit.A terrific value for money menu.

The hotel with the nicest, most helpful staff at all levels. Still waiting to meet a grumpy one. Nice room with a really comfortable bed. Kitchen staff do an amazing job serving good food at a budget price. Love this hotel they made a very hard time so easy a great bunch of people who work so hard. Thanks x

Please don't judge a book by it's cover. This hotel looks dated on the outside but is absolutely lovely on the inside. The staff are also brilliant and very helpful. Food is reasonably priced and tasty! The room I had was on the ground floor but was unique as it only had sky light windows that open with a press of a button. I could even smell the fresh paint in my room. Strongly recommend.

What a brilliant meal!! £12 for 2 courses/£14 for 3 courses!!!!!! Really lovely hearty food. Very good value.Service was great! All serving staff were polite and friendly(even when he denied it!!😁)Brilliant place to have a great meal with friends or family!

Food was fantastic, staff were absolutely brilliant and catered to the family's every need. It's not often that everyone in the large party is fully satisfied with the menu and service but this place absolutely nailed both points. Will definitely return.

Very reasonably priced room. All the necessary equipment provided. Room was clean and big enough. Bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Only slight gripe is the noise from the nearby road. Seemed a very busy road all night. A good 3 star experience.
